SenHai Saturday #32

Here is this week’s image to get your creative juices flowing!

The image, as described by the photographer, “A moody DC3 plane wreck sits stranded on the vast black sand of Sólheimasandur Beach in Iceland.” The wreckage is white, the background features hazy, dark mountains, and the sky is filled with clouds.

Please create one senryu and one haiku to accompany this image prompt. Remember that a traditional haiku describes nature or a season, while a senryu focuses on human nature and emotions.

Xmas

I’m not a big fan of the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not like Scrooge or the Grinch, but it’s just not my time of year. For me, it gets gloomy right before Thanksgiving, and I can’t wait for January 2nd. Seasonal Affective Disorder is part of it, but I think my dysfunctional past has a lot to do with it, too. Christmases just weren’t particularly happy times for me. Because of this, I do everything I can to weather my past and the cold days (I AM a beach bunny, you know!) to get through these months. The goal is to come out on the other side intact to enjoy Spring and Summer. I’ve managed so far!

Regardless of all my issues, I am wishing you all a whole lot of merry! So, enjoy, however you celebrate this day. :) xoxo

Redux

appreciate your moments
as they come and go

big, small
long, short
dreadful, wonderful
exciting, fearful
sad, happy
joyful, excruciating
embarrassing, bold
empowering, wrecked
lonely, connected
engaged, boring
lazy, determined

awake, asleep
agitated, peaceful
sane, reckless

cherish them all
when one day, they’ll just go

RE: WordPress-Specific Data Harvesting

Have you been seeing stats like this, too? I was aware of China’s data harvesting, but then I started seeing much higher numbers from the US as well. And frankly, just sick of not getting “real” data. I did some digging.

Here’s what’s going on per Google AI:

WordPress-Specific Data Harvesting

WordPress.org (Self-Hosted): These sites are generally considered “safe” from these specific partnerships, although they are still susceptible to general web crawlers.

WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org: This is a crucial distinction.

WordPress.com (Hosted): Automattic (parent company) has entered deals to sell public content from these blogs to AI companies. They automatically opted users in to share content with third parties for AI training, though they added an “opt-out” setting in early 2024.

According to WordPress’ Happiness Engineer:

You can turn this off directly from your site settings.

Please follow the steps here:
https://wordpress.com/support/privacy-settings/make-your-website-public/#prevent-third-party-sharing

You will see a simple checkbox option in your site’s backend. Check it, and third-party sharing will be disabled once you’ve saved your changes.

You’re welcome! :)

Your Window Is Closing Soon!

The 2025 submission cycle is closing in the next couple of weeks. Considering how strong the submissions came in early, I really thought I’d need to close it early this year, but I still have SIX spots left! If you’re on the fence about putting in your first submission, don’t hesitate; get it in. And if you’re waiting until the last minute, don’t!

This will be the last reminder. If I don’t get the submissions to post for the entire year, it will unfortunately have to be that way. I will be incredibly sad then. You don’t want me sad, or?
