SEND Support

Adapted SEND support at Global Academy ensures all students are Industry Ready

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Global Academy, we are dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to the same curriculum, including those with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). We comply with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 by making reasonable adjustments to remove barriers to learning and participation.

Our curriculum is adapted to provide tailored support, but all SEND students follow the same curriculum as their peers. We work closely with families and external agencies to create a personalised learning environment that promotes academic success and social inclusion.

Our Approach Includes:

  • Accessibility: We make adaptations to teaching methods, classroom layouts, and physical resources to ensure the curriculum is accessible for all students.
  • High-Quality Teaching: All teaching is underpinned by our commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive education that meets individual needs without altering the core curriculum.
  • Specialist Support: We have invested in resources and training to support students with speech, language, sensory, and motor needs, ensuring all students are able to access their learning fully.

At Global Academy, our SEND team, led by Louise Gaskin (Assistant Principal: Behaviour & Culture/SENDCO), is dedicated to ensuring that every student’s needs are met through evidence-based approaches and tailored support. In line with the SEND Code of Practice, which emphasises high-quality teaching as the foundation for effective SEND provision, we utilise specialist teachers rather than relying solely on teaching assistants. Research supports this approach, highlighting that small group teaching led by qualified teachers is more effective in improving outcomes for students with SEND. For example, the Education Endowment Foundation notes that well-structured small group teaching can accelerate progress by providing targeted, personalised instruction that aligns closely with curriculum goals.

At Global Academy, we have embedded this practice within our core subjects of Maths and English, where students benefit from specialist small group teaching to address their specific needs. Additionally, Tahera Ahmad and Aida Guspi provide tailored support within specific lessons and extend their expertise to the sixth form, ensuring students receive consistent and high-quality assistance. By combining the strengths of specialist teaching with targeted in-class support, we adhere to the principles of the SEND Code of Practice, fostering an inclusive and ambitious learning environment where all students can thrive academically and personally.
