Summary

  • Problem: Matrix clients on newer undici runtimes could stop syncing after startup because direct transport requests failed on the per-request pinned dispatcher path with UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG / invalid onRequestStart method.
  • Why it matters: Matrix accounts stayed logged in but stopped receiving new events, so agents looked unresponsive even though routing and bindings were correct.
  • What changed: add a narrow compatibility fallback for direct/no-proxy pinned-dispatcher requests in the Matrix transport and shared SSRF fetch path, and add regression coverage for the exact runtime failure shape.
  • What did NOT change (scope boundary): proxy modes still fail closed; SSRF hostname resolution/checks still run before the fallback retry.

Linked Issue/PR

  • This PR fixes a bug or regression

Root Cause (if applicable)

  • Root cause: direct Matrix transport requests and the shared SSRF fetch helper always attached a pinned per-request undici dispatcher; newer runtimes can reject that dispatcher shape before the request starts.
  • Missing detection / guardrail: no regression test covered the specific UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG / invalid onRequestStart method compatibility failure.
  • Contributing context (if known): the Matrix homeserver itself stayed reachable; plain fetch() worked, but the pinned-dispatcher path failed inside the running gateway process.

Regression Test Plan (if applicable)

  • Coverage level that should have caught this:
    • Unit test
    • Seam / integration test
    • End-to-end test
    • Existing coverage already sufficient
  • Target test or file: extensions/matrix/src/matrix/sdk/transport.test.ts, src/infra/net/fetch-guard.ssrf.test.ts
  • Scenario the test should lock in: when the runtime throws UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG with invalid onRequestStart method for a direct pinned dispatcher request, OpenClaw retries without the per-request dispatcher and succeeds.
  • Why this is the smallest reliable guardrail: the failure is runtime-shape-specific and reproducible at the fetch seam without requiring a live Matrix server.
  • Existing test that already covers this (if any): none
  • If no new test is added, why not: N/A

User-visible / Behavior Changes

  • Matrix clients can recover from this undici runtime compatibility failure and resume syncing instead of stalling during capability refresh/startup.

Security Impact (required)

  • New permissions/capabilities? (No)
  • Secrets/tokens handling changed? (No)
  • New/changed network calls? (No)
  • Command/tool execution surface changed? (No)
  • Data access scope changed? (No)
  • If any Yes, explain risk + mitigation:

Repro + Verification

Environment

  • OS: macOS local dev; Ubuntu remote gateway (clawd)
  • Runtime/container: local Node 22+ toolchain; affected remote gateway service runtime repro on Node v25.3.0
  • Model/provider: N/A
  • Integration/channel (if any): Matrix
  • Relevant config (redacted): Matrix direct/no-proxy accounts against https://matrix.gumadeiras.com

Steps

  1. Start the gateway with Matrix accounts configured in direct/no-proxy mode on the affected runtime.
  2. Let Matrix startup issue capability refresh / startup transport requests through the pinned dispatcher path.
  3. Observe the runtime throw UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG / invalid onRequestStart method, then verify the patched build retries without the per-request dispatcher and continues.

Expected

  • Matrix startup and capability refresh complete.
  • Matrix accounts continue syncing and responding to new events.

Actual

  • Before the fix, Matrix stayed logged in but stopped syncing new events.
  • After the fix, Matrix provider startup resumes and live Matrix traffic continues.

Evidence

Attach at least one:

  • Failing test/log before + passing after
  • Trace/log snippets
  • Screenshot/recording
  • Perf numbers (if relevant)

Human Verification (required)

  • Verified scenarios: reproduced the exact dispatcher failure on clawd; built and restarted the gateway there; confirmed Matrix startup resumed and live outbound Matrix traffic appeared after restart; confirmed the old Failed to refresh capabilities / ConnectionError: fetch failed log spam stopped.
  • Edge cases checked: proxy modes still do not bypass dispatcher failures; shared SSRF fetch path gets the same compatibility guard.
  • What you did not verify: a fresh manual Matrix DM/reply roundtrip from a separate client after the restart.

Review Conversations

  • I replied to or resolved every bot review conversation I addressed in this PR.
  • I left unresolved only the conversations that still need reviewer or maintainer judgment.

Compatibility / Migration

  • Backward compatible? (Yes)
  • Config/env changes? (No)
  • Migration needed? (No)
  • If yes, exact upgrade steps:

Risks and Mitigations

  • Risk: direct-mode fallback could reduce transport pinning on the retried request.
    • Mitigation: the fallback only triggers for the specific runtime-compatibility error, only in direct/no-proxy mode, and only after SSRF hostname resolution/checks already succeeded.
  • Risk: proxy routing could accidentally be bypassed.
    • Mitigation: explicit tests assert proxy modes do not use the fallback.

Local Verification Notes

  • Passed: pnpm test extensions/matrix/src/matrix/sdk/transport.test.ts
  • Passed: pnpm test src/infra/net/fetch-guard.ssrf.test.ts
  • Passed: pnpm build
  • pnpm check currently fails on unrelated existing type errors in src/cli/update-cli/update-command.ts:1096 and src/cli/update-cli/update-command.ts:1112; that file is unchanged in this branch.

Greptile Summary

This PR adds a narrow compatibility fallback for direct/no-proxy pinned-dispatcher requests that fail with UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG / invalid onRequestStart method on newer undici runtimes. The fallback retries without the per-request dispatcher, unblocking Matrix startup and sync on affected runtimes. The new pinned-dispatcher-compat.ts helper is correctly re-exported through both the Matrix extension's runtime-api.ts and src/plugin-sdk/ssrf-runtime.ts. Test coverage is solid, including explicit assertions that proxy modes do not use the fallback.

Confidence Score: 5/5

Safe to merge; the only finding is a P2 style inconsistency with no functional impact.

The fallback logic is correct and well-scoped (direct/no-proxy only, specific error code, abort signal propagated to retry). Proxy modes are explicitly tested to fail closed. The sole finding — a .ts vs .js import extension in fetch-guard.ts — is a style issue that does not affect runtime behaviour or the build.

No files require special attention beyond the minor import-extension note in src/infra/net/fetch-guard.ts.

Comment:
**`.ts` extension inconsistent with rest of file**

All other local imports in this file and throughout `src/infra/net/` use `.js` extensions (lines 8, 9, 19), but this new import uses `.ts`. The build passes because Bun handles it natively, but it is the only `.ts`-extension local import in the entire `src/infra/net/` directory.

```suggestion
import {
  canBypassPinnedDispatcherForCompatibility,
  isPinnedDispatcherRuntimeCompatibilityError,
} from "./pinned-dispatcher-compat.js";
```

How can I resolve this? If you propose a fix, please make it concise.

Pull request overview

This PR addresses a Matrix sync stall caused by newer undici runtimes rejecting the per-request pinned dispatcher (e.g., UND_ERR_INVALID_ARG / invalid onRequestStart method) by adding a targeted retry path that re-attempts direct/no-proxy requests without the pinned dispatcher, plus regression tests to lock in the behavior.

Changes:

  • Add pinned-dispatcher runtime compatibility detection + “retry without dispatcher” fallback for direct requests.
  • Apply the fallback to both Matrix transport and the shared SSRF-guarded fetch helper.
  • Add unit/regression tests for the exact runtime failure shape and ensure proxy modes do not bypass routing.

Remove the plugin-sdk, entrypoint inventory, and contract drift that got
bundled into the Matrix dispatcher compatibility PR.

Keep the PR focused on the Matrix transport fallback and the shared SSRF
fail-closed behavior so review and backports stay narrow.

* feat(bedrock-mantle): add IAM credential auth via @aws/bedrock-token-generator

Mantle previously required a manually-created API key (AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK).
This adds automatic bearer token generation from IAM credentials using the
official @aws/bedrock-token-generator package.

Auth priority:
1. Explicit AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK env var (manual API key from Console)
2. IAM credentials via getTokenProvider() → Bearer token (instance roles,
SSO profiles, access keys, EKS IRSA, ECS task roles)

Token is cached in memory (1hr TTL, generated with 2hr validity) and in
process.env.AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK for downstream sync reads.

Falls back gracefully when package is not installed or credentials are
unavailable — Mantle provider simply not registered.

* fix(exec ): stop emitting tool updates after session is backgrounded

When an exec session is backgrounded (background: true), the owning
agent run resolves its tool-call promise and may finish. The stdout
handler's emitUpdate() closure, however, kept invoking opts.onUpdate(),
delivering tool_execution_update events to a listener whose active run
had already ended. This surfaced as an unhandled rejection and crashed
the gateway process.

Guard emitUpdate() with a session.backgrounded || session.exited check
so that post-background output is still captured via appendOutput() but
no longer forwarded to the (now-stale) agent-loop callback.

Resolve 7 merge conflicts from sync/upstream-2026-04-06 (v2026.4.5):
- pnpm-lock.yaml: keep our platform-channel + upstream's qa-channel/qa-lab
- app-render.ts: add upstream session-key imports, deduplicate agentLogoUrl
- control-ui-bootstrap.ts: keep our branding (resolveUiBrand, title, agentId)
- control-ui-bootstrap.test.ts: keep our test expectations + upstream null checks
- schema.base.generated.ts: keep our Firecrawl + profile config entries
- schema.labels.ts: keep our Firecrawl + profile labels

Includes CVE-2026-33579 fix (callerScopes in /pair approve handler).

* feat(memory): add Bedrock embedding provider for memory search

Add Amazon Bedrock as a native embedding provider for memory search.
Supports Titan Embed Text v1/v2 and Cohere Embed models via AWS SDK.

- New embeddings-bedrock.ts: BedrockRuntimeClient + InvokeModel
- Auth via AWS default credential chain (same as Bedrock inference)
- Auto-selected in 'auto' mode when AWS credentials are detected
- Titan V2: configurable dimensions (256/512/1024), normalization
- Cohere: native batch support with search_query/search_document types
- 16 new tests covering all model types, auth detection, edge cases

Closes openclaw#26289

* feat(bedrock-mantle): add IAM credential auth via @aws/bedrock-token-generator

Mantle previously required a manually-created API key (AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK).
This adds automatic bearer token generation from IAM credentials using the
official @aws/bedrock-token-generator package.

Auth priority:
1. Explicit AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK env var (manual API key from Console)
2. IAM credentials via getTokenProvider() → Bearer token (instance roles,
SSO profiles, access keys, EKS IRSA, ECS task roles)

Token is cached in memory (1hr TTL, generated with 2hr validity) and in
process.env.AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK for downstream sync reads.

Falls back gracefully when package is not installed or credentials are
unavailable — Mantle provider simply not registered.

* fix: stop emitting post-background exec updates (openclaw#61627) (thanks @openperf)

Guard emitUpdate() with a session.backgrounded || session.exited check
so that post-background output is still captured via appendOutput() but
no longer forwarded to the (now-stale) agent-loop callback.

Backend changes for session sidebar feature:

- agent.ts: pass preserveHistory=true to session reset
- session-reset-service.ts: add file reuse optimization for preserved sessions
- types.ts: add previousSessionKey field to SessionEntry
- session-utils.ts: add compound key support in session key resolution

This enables the UI to show previous sessions in sidebar while
preserving complete chat history for archived sessions.
