What is Responsibility? Responsibility means taking care of things you need to do and making good choices. It includes doing your chores at home, bringing your soccer ball and water bottle to practice, and being honest.

Examples of Showing Respect in Soccer:

Attending Practices

Showing up on time for all practices and games with your soccer ball and water bottle

Listening to Your Coach

Paying attention and following instructions during practices and games

Playing Your Position

Staying focused and playing your assigned position on the field

Helping Teammates

Assisting teammates who need assistance or encouragement

Strategies to Help You Become More Responsible.

Put First Things First

Doing the harder thing first, so that you haven’t exhausted your willpower before you get it done. This is a form of showing responsibility because you’re doing the most important things first, not necessarily what you want to do.

If - Then

If-then is a simple strategy that helps the players think about a situation and plan a response in advance. For example, if I’m tempted to talk while the coach is talking, I will remind myself of the Golden Rule and wait for my turn.
