What does it mean to show great effort? Giving effort means that you do something even if it's difficult or you are afraid you'll fail. It's putting in your full energy and not giving up.

Giving 100%

Giving your best effort in every practice and game, even when things are not going your way.

Showing Mental and Physical Effort

Using both your mind and your body to do something. Soccer requires as much thinking as it does running

Keeping a Positive Attitude

A natural part of learning is failure. Mastering new skills means that you keep a positive attitude and you keep working hard, even when things aren’t going well.

Developing a Growth Mindset

Psychologist Carol Dweck says that most people have one of two mindsets. They either believe that learning is naturally hard and involves failure or they believe that people are born “smart” or have “natural talent”. People who believe that they need to practice a lot to learn something new have a Growth Mindset. People with a Fixed Mindset believe that working hard and struggling is a sign of weakness and failure. They tend to get easily frustrated and want to quit when things are hard.

We want to encourage all of our players to have a Growth Mindset which will help you give maximum effort even when things get tough. Failure means that you are one step closer to learning or mastering a new skill.
