4.29.26 Hodgepodge Edition

Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts this mid-week shindig. Years ago, I was fairly active at participating, but things got in the way causing me to pull away. I thought perhaps I’d give it another try to see where it takes me.

Here are this week’s questions with my answers.

1. Are you feeling more reset, restart, or full speed ahead as we move into May? Tell us why.

Definitely restart. Every day is almost the same as the previous, so naturally a new month means more of the same.

2. Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, cinema, theatre, music…what’s your favorite form of art? Elaborate.

Music and digital painting are my favorite. I listen to music for hours on end each day and I can spend hours creating new Procreate artwork. I’m now beginning to dabble with painting with real watercolors. This is something I’ve long wanted to do, but didn’t feel comfortable. I made my mom a Mother’s Day design with watercolors that I’m excited to share with you in a few weeks. šŸ˜‰

3. What time is dinner at your house? How do you feel about leftovers?

We prefer to eat early in the evening no later than 5pm through the week. The weekends vary. Leftovers are loved here! In fact, when I cook I try to make enough to last us for a few meals.

4.What’s the last thing you fell down a rabbit hole investigating?

No doubt music. That’s definitely an area that can keep me tied up and every lead I don’t put into use immediately, if it’s something I like then I save a link.

5. And now for a question from the book Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me… At what are you ‘self-taught?’

I call myself a self-taught artist. I had some art in high school, but I lacked the self esteem to truly excel. I compared my work with the more talented kids, which limited me. In 2017, I pulled out an old unused art pad left behind by DD#2 and began doodling. The same year DH got me an iPad and Apple Pencil for our anniversary. He also got me a drawing app that I love called Procreate. Digital drawing gave me the freedom to practice, practice, practice without fear of messing up. Fixes are easy and I don’t destroy my entire illustration. It built my confidence and skills.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We have two birthdays, as well Mother’s Day next month. I managed to get all three handcrafted cards completed early. I’ll share the artwork soon. We also figured out gifts to order for each. Now to send everything out on time. šŸ™‚

With art on the brain, I can show you a new illustration I did this week using Procreate. The first image is the original and the second is reimagined version using my Brushstrokes app to give my design a painting-like effect.

Incidentally, you can add any image to Brushstrokes, turning an ordinal picture into a painting. I think it’s a really cool tool!

Last week, I made a pot of pintos and Mexican cornbread. Mmmm good! Here’s my recipe for the cornbread. It goes well with chili, too.

I may not always link up, but I’m faithful to do return visits and I try to respond to all comments. For those who don’t know, my blog had a malware infection in December which destroyed everything and I’m working on restoring the damage. This usually preoccupies my attention. I do take breaks to enjoy other things in life.

Coming up next on CAAC is May 1st Battle of the Bands. I’d love it if you’d stop in to cast your vote. Have a wonderful day!

4M Friendly Strangers

This week’s theme is Isles of March or St Patrick’s Day. Which inspires you more? Let your imagination command the dance floor how ever your music creativity moves you!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! I threw out two music prompts to inspire ya. I hope it helped. I’m going to be the odd one and if you’re on the same page as me, then we’ll just stick out like two sore thumbs together.

In today’s line up, I’m sharing with you the 1970 album, Friendly Strangers by The Ides of March.

At first, I thought this was a new discovery until I got to track three. I recognized it immediately, but I’m not sure if it’s this version or another I remember.

Now what about the calendar event known as “Ides of March”, what’s that all about? I looked this up before but forgot. It’s basically marks the mid-point of the month and is historically marked by the turning point for the Roman empire with the assassination of Julius Caesar. What contrasting figures we recognize this month, Caesar, a dictator – self serving, and St Patrick, a man of God – serving others.

Everyone has time restraints. Please if you can, when you add your link to make an honest effort to visit, comment, or click ā€˜likeā€ to let your bloggy friend know you stopped by. For some a small gesture means a lot.

At the moment, I do not have a “like” button. Feel free to drop an emoji in comments, no words needed so I’ll know to do a return visit.

Are you ready? It’s now your turn to share what music moves you!

This is a music link up.  Music themes are only a suggestion. Your post must contain at least one song or your URL is marked “No Music”.

I borrowed the Irish blessing to create this St Patrick’s Day greetings for you for my Awww Mondays contribution hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

This is a rework of my 2020 Irish Lass vintage pinup girl I drew for the A2Z Challenge. I really like the changes and improvements.

Procreate sketch

I apologize for the added fluff, but I couldn’t resist trying it in Brushstrokes.

To see each of these photos, just right click to open image in a new tab.

Before I go I wanted to share with you something DH shared with me last year, an image of a giant Celtic cross in the Donegal Forest in Ireland.  You can read more about this interesting landscape at IrishCentral.

I’ll wind things down with another playlist by Ides of March. Enjoy and have a boogietastic week!

4M A Forgotten 70s Song

I like being able to show you my art progression but I can’t find the old artwork either here on my site or computer. The original is one of my earliest Procreate creation from 2017 or 2018. I’ll find it eventually, but anyhow this a do-over Procreate sketch that I used in Brushstrokes to give it that painting like effect.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! There’s no theme this week, it’s whatever music moves you, but then again, music prompts are only suggestions. šŸ˜‰

In recent years, this song crossed my path a few times, a 70s song that I forgot and needless to say, I couldn’t name the artist. Usually, I like to make a note where I find music but failed to do that.  I know it was one of you, though.  Walter Egan released Magnet and Steel in 1978 from his second album, Not Shy.  The song peaked number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 9 in Canada. The song stayed on American charts for 22 weeks.  It was interesting to read Fleetwood band members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham provided backup vocals, along with others, on this track.  Give up for Walter Egan, “Magnet and Steel”!

For some a small gesture means a lot and as I’ve said ā€œlikingā€ my post may be the only way I know that you visited, but since you can’t do that right now, please drop an emoji if you don’t have time or just don’t want to say anything in comments, so I’ll know you stopped by.

This past Friday we had some excitement on our street. While sitting in the living room having our breakfast and watching The Price Is Right, we noticed what appeared like fast moving dark clouds rolling toward the north. At first we didn’t think anything of it, then DH said “I wonder if that’s smoke?” We both stood up and notice across the street some dark smoke bellowing from behind the neighbor’s house. It wasn’t long before we heard a siren then we noticed the flames shooting out of the roof. I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure there’s no saving the structure. The good news is the elderly woman and her son escaped the fire with minimal injuries. This was all so scary. Ā Please keep them in your prayers while they are displaced and dealing with the aftermath of the fire.

Have a boogietastic week!

Shot this pretty scene late last Thursday while out running an errand after DH got off from work. This is not too far from Norris dam. I didn’t notice the birds along the bank and what appears to be a crane in the water. I love finding happy surprises such as this in my pictures.

December Sea by Stratilatis

Awww Mondays – cute penguin sketch reinvented using Brushstrokes

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me!Ā  This week’s theme is new songs past or present.

New songs I stumble on are either old tunes that finally reach my ears or those that I trip upon browsing YouTube and that’s how I discovered the artist Stratilatis. His YT creations are AI assisted. I have a wee problem with this sort of technology because it’s difficult to spot that its a fake, especially if the video has a famous musician featured. However this doesn’t appear to be the case with this creator.Ā  My ears were captivated by Seas of September, which is quite beautiful and while I was all set to let that be my one song pick for today, I found a new song release December Sea,

A new  year means new beginnings. Up until a few days ago, I had infected files on my site prompting Arvixe, my host site, to place restrictions on outbound traffic. This didn’t appear to effect visitors and while I could respond to comments or post, my site couldn’t communicate with WordPress. That’s why some things looked out of sorts.  I changed my theme to a “WordPress.org” layout. One of the themes I had was part of the problem and a few plugins were bad.  I haven’t gotten everything back quite the way I want but will continue working on it, but I most certainly am going to go to a new host site soon.   I hope you enjoyed the music. Have a boogietastic week!

Until I things get settled with my blog, I will only do Sunday Songs and 4M. That being said, I don’t want my art creations to set idly on the side waiting for an opportunity so I will include my illustrations when I have them here.

Grateful for Jesus

This week’s art prompt is “gratitude” which is perfect, especially for this day.

I’m thankful for the birth of the Christ child whom we honor this holiday season and who lives within many hearts 365 around the globe.

Vintage Memories of an Autumn in Maine

I’m pulling today’s photo share out of archives for two reasons, one I’m a bit short now that time has caught up with my scheduled post. The second is, I could’ve sworn I shared one of these pictures on my site when we were getting ready preparing for our 2022 Maine vacation but it seems I did not.

There’s the possibility when my site originally migrated from Blogspot to WordPress it got lost. Whatever is going on, I’m sharing (or again) now. These pictures were taken on our second trip to Maine in October 1997.Ā  Everyone kept saying the colors were past peak, but it looked gorgeous to usl.

I’m sharing two original photos plus recreations of each done in Brushstrokes.Ā

Original photo from 35mm print

The original photos were snapped using a 35mm Nikon point n’ shoot camera.  Although, I had a problem in those days of taking too many pictures of the same scene I was no where near as bad as I am with digital technology simply because it was expensive  processing the film.

There you have it a memory from way back when! Last fall, we got a chance visit Boothbay Harbor. I took several pictures but have yet to share those with you. I promise,Ā  I’ll get around to it! Up next time on CAAC, I’ll be sharing a new illustration with the TAD community and I invite you to pop in for a peek at my latest masterpiece. Alright that might be a stretch but it is a piece of art. šŸ˜‰ Have a fototastic day! xo

FFO #19

Going through old sketches, I went with one that I did do over but wanted to take another stab at the original. The do-over art piece is different enough that I want to rework it and will share them with you next time.Ā  Ā

The original 2017 pencil sketch used in the A2Z challenge

Procreate color sketch

I was ambitions with this do-over.  I started off with the color illustration. A few days later when I began the sketching the other girl and had the new illustration nearly done when I wished I had done a pencil sketch of this little lady.  That didn’t stop me, I went straight to it and did a black and white drawing. I got a lot of practice shading in, but much more learning is needed.  The bottom line is from the original Victorian Woman drawing, my work looks less amateurish. There’s plenty of room to grow and I already see things I should’ve done differently. I look forward continuing the process.

This picture always reminds me of Jane Seymour in the film, Somewhere in Time. It’s a lovely romance movie. I’ll close with the soundtrack for your listening pleasure.

In keeping with a stress-free, fun visit remember no comments are needed, just click the like button to let me know you stopped by and I will visit you soon. Watch for my more artwork shares to publish two weeks from today, same time, same slot.

Before I skip off, let me share yesterday’s TAD art works for this challenge. A little later today, if you need a laugh then watch for my newest edition of You’ve Got Mail! Have a doodletastic day! xo

A Smoky Mountain Sunrise

This week’s art prompt is sunrise.

I knew right off what I wanted to illustrate so I did a Brave search for inspirational images and I found just the one but because I have trouble knowing if I’m looking at a sunrise or sunset I had to learn the difference separating the two scenes. Sunrises have a cooler temperature and lighter colors whereas sunsets are warmer light and dominant colors. The image I found was definitely a sunset painting. This is easily fixed. I illustrated first in Procreate then used it in Brushstrokes to create a painting-like image.

Original Procreate sketch

Procreate sketch in Brushstrokes

I played around with Procreate a lot trying to give my illustration a paint brush texture. I think I achieved it somewhat.  The thing I like about Brushstrokes is how the colors bring out the canvas background which is easy to see in the sky. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to taking up “real” painting as much as I want even if I had the space, I don’t know if I can let go of fears of messing up.

I really wanted to play along last week but I was recouping from eye surgery and I hadn’t finished revamping one of my vintage pinup girls that works really well for “At Work”.  I managed to get it done and am going to put it on display now for you.

Procreate sketch do over

I drew this originally one Father’s Day and shared it with the TAD community for Rain’s prompt, “Mechanical”. To my eye, I see some changes for the better but there’s always room for improvement.Ā

I haven’t been faithful at participating with the TAD community. I will do my best to  finish out the year strong.  As you many of you know, Rain is on an extensive blogging hiatus. I placed Rain’s art prompts for the rest of the year for anyone interested in my side menu where you can find other Thursday blogging communities to join, as well.

I’m blessed to have both cataract surgeries done and am doing very well.  I’m very thankful how well I can see without any correction. I’m eager to find out what. I would love to not wear glasses but that’s not realistic.  The good thing is I can see normal size printed text okay.  It doesn’t feel comfortable and it would tire my eyes if I did it much but I can read it whereas before I could not.

I’m thankful for the milder temperatures this week. The heat is on the return, though. It won’t be long until the weather shifts and that will feel wonderful!

I’m always thankful for all things small. The things we don’t always call by name or even notice because its so much apart of my day, but I know where all my blessings come from and it’s to Him I’m grateful. 😊

Tomorrow, I’ll be back with more art for FFO. If you’re around stop by for a visit.

No comments are needed, simply click ā€œLikeā€ to let me know you stopped by and I’ll make a return visit asap.  Have a doodletastic day!

I stumbled on this song by Ryan Bingham but I was first introduced to him from the TV drama series Yellowstone.

Getting Back on Track?

Well….not hardly. This is a fly by the seat of my pants post.  Reading over John’s weekly Writing Workshop prompts earlier on Tuesday, I began mulling over how to participate. Another idea struck me, I guess it was last week while visiting fellow TAD bud, I thought the art prompt was something I could use to refresh an old piece or even repost to get myself back on track while on my semi-summer break.  Although, Rain is on an extensive blogging hiatus herself, I wanted to see what her art prompt is this week, but learned that her site was down.  I’m not sure what’s going on there but I reached out to Christine whose faithfully kept on drawing and sharing,  hoping that she saved the list.  That’s what I should’ve done. She got back straight away to me that it’s “Peaches”.  I knew I didn’t have any illustrations of peaches but thought it would be fun to do and that’s when every thing came together.

That preverbal light didn’t come on until this morning. Working quickly, no doubt it shows, I sketched a peach. I somehow missed that the art prompt was plural until I had finished my drawing and began composing this post. The point being here, I’m trying to get back on track, right?

Procreate peach sketch

Procreate peach sketch reinvented as a Brushstrokes illustration

Just in seconds ago…. I got an email from Rain. She has temporarily closed her site while she “retools and figures out things” after the loss of Alex.Ā  I know everyone is sending their love and prayers her way! xo

It’s interesting I’ve had fresh, ripe peaches on the brain all summer.Ā  This is something you can’t get in stores around here which I was reminded of recently when we bought some at Kroger.Ā  They were hard and tasteless. If I left them out of the refrigerator to ripen, they became mushy and still tasteless. Ugh!Ā  Nothing beats the summer sweetness of a good peach eating out of your hand.Ā  Some of my favorite peach desserts are peach cobbler with or without vanilla ice cream and peach pie!Ā Ā

Of course, a bowl of creamy peachy ice cream is always a winner but it’s hard to find peach ice cream.

Brian’s Home hosts Thankful Thursdays.  I am blessed beyond measure from the basics to a few extras.  Waking up this morning is reason to be thankful. We have plenty of reason to be thankful and while you don’t have to mention each one, it’s your attitude that shows what’s in your heart.

A thankful heart is a happy heart

I definitely won’t be on track next week. I’m having my second cataract surgery on Wednesday which means I’ll be offline until the weekend and this is a holiday weekend, too. Yippee!

How about some Georgia Peaches?!

Wild Black Eye Susans Brushstrokes Creations

These archived photos weren’t in danger of being trashed. I wanted to turn them into painting-like images using Brushstrokes.Ā Ā

An iPhone captured of a neighbor’s beautiful cluster of Black Eye Susans in 2013 reinvented as a painting-like image in Brushstrokes.
This Brushstrokes recreation is of a photo taken with my Big Girl Camera in 2014 in East Tennessee near Watauga Lake.

I think the first image needs the exposure lightened a bit. What do you think?Ā Ā Thanks for stopping in for a visit. I hope you have a fototastic day! xo
