I featured Rick Astley three years ago on the dance floor, but after listening to his March release, Waiting On You, featured on Stacy’s blog a few months ago I thought it was time to see what else he had going on.
This is Rick’s 2023 UK #2 debut album, Are We There Yet.

I’m going to wind things up with the cover Pink Pony Club, Astley shared on his YT channel and a new Procreate illustration.
Have a boogietastic week!
I found inspiration to draw my three little meowriachis after watching a FB reel. The sketch needed something, so I found the festive Mexican theme border to add to my illustration. Tomorrow is May 5, so this is a purrfect fit for Meow de Cinco…I mean Mayo de Cinco.
…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5 KJV
The “Clear Skies” by Ernie Haase & Signature Sound caught my ear with its bubbly, uplifting, infectious melody. I almost put up just that song when I noticed an entire Clear Skies playlist and decided to bring that to you today. Hit play to listen non-stop to all 13 tracks.
This is a day of rest. There’s no need for words. Thank you for stopping by and for 4Mers or anyone with music wishing to join the party early then link up below. I’ll be back in the morning with Monday’s Music Moves Me. Have a blessed Sunday!
Brushstrokes recreation of my first time sketching lilacs using Procreate
I don’t know if you caught what I’m doing for the last couple of battles. I used songs inspired by the month and I’m doing the same this time. Lilacs bloom in May. We were given a young lilac bush as a house warming gift some 40+ years ago. It doesn’t always do well because of the location, but even the smallest cluster of blooms create a delightful scent. Anyway, I went off looking for songs that work when I came across We’ll Gather Lilacs. This song was written for the hit mid 40s UK musical, Perchance to Dream. I don’t know anything about it or the song, other than what I read at Wiki. It was first recorded by Muriel Barrow and Olive Gilbert (1945).
Seconhandsongs shows 74 covers of this song. After running through several recordings, I decided to go with two old familiar artists. I like both covers better than the original hands down. Listen to Frank and then Bing to see which legendary vocalist gets your vote!
Polls close at noon (ET) on the 7th!
I hope you had fun listening. Now, it’s up to you to tell me in comments who you like and why (optional), then next week on the 8th I’ll drop the results in my comments.
Before I go, just a reminder for more battles underway, I have a dedicated BOTB page for all participants at the top on the main menu. This is DH’s off Friday, so I won’t be online much today. I’ll get around to seeing you soon, though. 😉 Up next on CAAC is Sunday Songs. Have a bandtastic day!
Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts this mid-week shindig. Years ago, I was fairly active at participating, but things got in the way causing me to pull away. I thought perhaps I’d give it another try to see where it takes me.
Here are this week’s questions with my answers.
1. Are you feeling more reset, restart, or full speed ahead as we move into May? Tell us why.
Definitely restart. Every day is almost the same as the previous, so naturally a new month means more of the same.
2. Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, cinema, theatre, music…what’s your favorite form of art? Elaborate.
Music and digital painting are my favorite. I listen to music for hours on end each day and I can spend hours creating new Procreate artwork. I’m now beginning to dabble with painting with real watercolors. This is something I’ve long wanted to do, but didn’t feel comfortable. I made my mom a Mother’s Day design with watercolors that I’m excited to share with you in a few weeks. 😉
3. What time is dinner at your house? How do you feel about leftovers?
We prefer to eat early in the evening no later than 5pm through the week. The weekends vary. Leftovers are loved here! In fact, when I cook I try to make enough to last us for a few meals.
4.What’s the last thing you fell down a rabbit hole investigating?
No doubt music. That’s definitely an area that can keep me tied up and every lead I don’t put into use immediately, if it’s something I like then I save a link.
5. And now for a question from the book Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me… At what are you ‘self-taught?’
I call myself a self-taught artist. I had some art in high school, but I lacked the self esteem to truly excel. I compared my work with the more talented kids, which limited me. In 2017, I pulled out an old unused art pad left behind by DD#2 and began doodling. The same year DH got me an iPad and Apple Pencil for our anniversary. He also got me a drawing app that I love called Procreate. Digital drawing gave me the freedom to practice, practice, practice without fear of messing up. Fixes are easy and I don’t destroy my entire illustration. It built my confidence and skills.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
We have two birthdays, as well Mother’s Day next month. I managed to get all three handcrafted cards completed early. I’ll share the artwork soon. We also figured out gifts to order for each. Now to send everything out on time. 🙂
With art on the brain, I can show you a new illustration I did this week using Procreate. The first image is the original and the second is reimagined version using my Brushstrokes app to give my design a painting-like effect.

Incidentally, you can add any image to Brushstrokes, turning an ordinal picture into a painting. I think it’s a really cool tool!
Last week, I made a pot of pintos and Mexican cornbread. Mmmm good! Here’s my recipe for the cornbread. It goes well with chili, too.
I may not always link up, but I’m faithful to do return visits and I try to respond to all comments. For those who don’t know, my blog had a malware infection in December which destroyed everything and I’m working on restoring the damage. This usually preoccupies my attention. I do take breaks to enjoy other things in life.
Coming up next on CAAC is May 1st Battle of the Bands. I’d love it if you’d stop in to cast your vote. Have a wonderful day!
This week’s theme is inspired by the start of baseball season. Share your music picks to show your love for the sport or take it in a direction that moves you!
Baseball, America’s favorite past time, right? There was a time when I really took to the game. It was exciting to watch the games as a kid. There was field not far from my house where some games were played and I enjoyed watching the boys my age and older play. Even in rural West Virginia they sold food. The hot dogs were the best! Really, the ladies made home-made chili for the dogs which made them superb M-m-m-m, good!
Off topic, thinking way back when I was remember teenagers seemed really old and now teenagers are super young to me. The years can change one’s perspective. Anyway, I am not a baseball spectator anymore. I appreciate the sport, the athletes, and the fans. It’s a huge part of our culture. How do I put my personal touch on something I am not into?
I thought about the field, at home base the batter sees the path he must run that makes a diamond shape. I didn’t know until, but originally the diamond was a New York thing and over time became a universal term for the infield. Anyway, that made me think of “diamond” as a possible direction. “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” by Elton John would’ve been a good song choice and no it has nothing to do with baseball, but things like that never stop.
Instead, I thought player positions and the first one that came to mind is “shortstop”. This lead me to Sara Hickman who has a song referencing a shortstop and the the tune is named that. Once at YouTube, I found the song and the complete album playlist which wouldn’t you guess is titled Shortstop. After listening to the “Shortstop” track, I had to finish the rest of the playlist and am now sharing it with you.
Sara has a lovely voice. I have always enjoyed folk style music which makes Sara quite listenable for hours. I was surprised to learn Sara has been in the industry for a long time and is close to my age. I find it amazing how an artist goes undetected. At
It’s great fun to make new discoveries such as this when I go off-grind a bit with the theme. I want everyone to do the same as much or little as possible. Challenge is what helps to keep things mentally fresh for anyone. I also like to think this is working my brain more when I explore.

Sometime the darkness, whatever your or my darkness is, feels like it can swallow you whole. Hope can be found in Jesus whenever darkness comes.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! My blog friend Clive from Take It Easy reminded me reminded last month of an oldie with in his music post featuring ‘brown’ song titles. It just jumped into my head! I hadn’t thought about it in years. If I had to guess it was my bestie who introduced it to me, so I thought it would be fun to share Elton John’s 1975 album bearing the same name, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboys
Alan Aldridge designed the truly fantastic cover artwork. I didn’t know then and still don’t know the meaning behind it but it’s really cool. I read that this album made history by being the first ever to debut number 1 on US Billboard 200 chart. It sold more than 1M copies in four days and stayed at the top of the chart several weeks. It was certified 3x Platinum and gold before it actually released. The way I remember it, the song that immediately clicked with me on the album is Someone Saved My Life Tonight. This US Pop hit single ranked number 4. Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds and Philadelphia Freedom are also favorites of mine. I can’t believe this album will soon be 51 years old. Where does the time go?

Restoration of my site continues. I’m not an all work and no play kind of gal. I do find time to create new artwork or try to improve old works. I don’t believe I ever shared this piece with you, but it is a re-illustration of a birthday card I made for DD2’s boyfriend in 2021. After I made changes, I used the image in Brushstrokes. This brush effect is called gloss 2. I love the texture! No name dropping, but I may use this version for an upcoming birthday for family.
If you’re curious, here’s my first drawing of Animal.

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the Titanic tragedy 114 years ago. A list of prompts to inspire your song picks ships, icebergs, big band music, or surprise us all with your own spin on it.
Christmas 2024, we toured the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge. Here the violinist and pianist played “Nearer My God To Thee” causing tears to pool and shivers run across my arms. For a second I could almost imagine the sorrow felt that night by the victims and the survivors.
Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! The Sinking of the Titanic was horrific tragedy in history. One that possibly would’ve had a different ending had the captain of a boat nearby chose to break protocol by responding and helping the Titanic. However, we’ll never know for sure.
This is all too sad, not a note I want to end things on so I’m going to share one of my favorite songs from the 70s.

My paternal grandmother was 3 years old when the Titanic sank and my maternal grandparents weren’t born yet. This means my great-grandparents on both sides would’ve been young adults. An interesting tidbit is on the Titanic’s 54th anniversary, my baby brother was born. He would’ve celebrated his 60th birthday if he were still with us.
I’m going to leave you with a new sketch that I hope puts a smile on your face. Oopsy, I see flaws, but that’s okay. I can improve upon what I started anytime. 😉 Have a boogietastic week!
A cute polar bear sitting on an iceberg Procreate sketch inspired by today’s theme that I’m sharing with Sandee at Comedy Plus and her Aww Mondays community
This morning’s song of encouragement is for anyone struggling with the darkness.
Satan is darkness. His form comes in many shapes and it’s only in Christ can one survive.
Spiritual battles are that, unseen wars between good and evil. In Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10-14 tells us how to suit up against the darkness. Stand firm in God’s light. The darkness can not overcome you, if you’re His child.
