Our history
Who is Componize Software?
In 2008, Jean-Luc Borie and Frank Shipley, two veterans of enterprise information systems, founded Componize Software with a key insight into the future of content management and document management, in particular. They noticed that managers were increasingly frustrated with the limitations of their current CMSes with regard to the changing demands of their customers and end-users. Users seek content that is modular and adaptable to various formats. People work with chunks of information in online help, not lengthy manuals. People seek learning content in digestible segments, not always full-length courses. Jean-Luc and Frank knew that emerging XML-based technologies, if leveraged the right way, could be the answer: if information is unchained from documents it could be more easily reused and published across channels and in various formats.
They designed Componize. Componize’s first versions were built for new and emerging technology architectures such as DITA.
Within three years of Componize’s first product launch, the wave of DITA adoption in enterprises had grown dramatically. The team was well positioned to answer the call, with one of the easiest and most effective DITA CMS solutions on the market. In fact, Componize is the only DITA CMS specifically designed for new technology architectures like DITA. Componize quickly secured early marquee clients including AMD, NXP and SAP, among others. They’re integrating Componize into their existing CMS programs or launching entirely new programs in order to maximize the benefits of Componize’s DITA CMS.

Our Leadership
Frank Shipley
Chief Technical Officer
As Co-founder and CTO, Frank leads the pioneering technical team at Componize software. His responsibilities include product innovation and development and delivering high quality services and support to our clients.
After more than a decade in the automotive industry as a lead software engineer for Jaguar and Peugeot, Frank worked for several years as an independent consultant and training instructor specialized in XML technologies and enterprise content management.
Frank has a BSC in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick in the UK. He co-founded Componize Software in 2008 with the objective of commercializing a new and innovative framework for XML content and Component Content Management. He is known in the DITA world as a technology “guru”, but he would never admit to it.
Jean-Luc BORIE
CEO
As the Co-founder and CEO, Jean-Luc leads the Componize team in the development of its business, marketing and culture.
Prior to Componize, Jean-Luc held different management and business development positions with software and IT services companies. He joined the Content Management industry in 2005, when he created the ECM department of Tetralogyx, a French IT services company, with Frank Shipley. The division quickly became a certified international strategic training partner for Alfresco Software.
Jean-Luc holds a Master’s degree in International Business, with a specialization in computing from the University of Aix-Marseille in the South of France. A perennial good spirit, he never shies away from a challenge.
