Sculling
Sculling is a great way to take control of your Charles River experience in a fun learning environment rowing in a one-person rowing boat! Beginning with Intro to Scull rowers learn the basics of sculling. After completing Intro to Sculling, rowers can further develop their skills progressing to Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and finally, Logbook.
Intro to Sculling
Intro to Sculling serves as an introduction for those who are new to both sculling and rowing in general. If you have never rowed previously or have most recently participated in one of our introductory programs (Adult Learn to Row, Novice Sweeps), this is the class for you! You will learn the basics of the rowing stroke, as well as how to navigate the river, in safe, stable one-person shells (singles).
Novice Sculling
Novice Sculling builds upon what rowers learned in Intro to Sculling and is for participants with some rowing experience, but who are newer to, or less experienced with, sculling. Coaches will work on refining the skills and, depending on skill level, athletes will move into singles that are more responsive and require more balance and subtlety. If you have previously participated in one of our Adult Competitive teams or General Sweeps, but do not have much sculling experience, or have completed Intro to Sculling, this program is for you!
Intermediate Sculling – Singles
If you feel moderately comfortable in a sculling boat, or you once felt very comfortable but have been away from the water for a long time – this is the class for you! Participants in Intermediate Sculling have a moderate amount of sculling experience and are looking to continue to improve their skills. The class will take place in singles, with a focus on continued skill development and increased confidence in moving the boat.
Intermediate Sculling – Team Boats
Designed to be more interactive with other athletes, by having you row in doubles and quads, team boat rowing creates a great team of rowers working together to refine their skills and develop the ability to scull in bigger boats.
Advanced Sculling
Advanced Sculling provides participants coaching in our fleet of racing shells. Participants in this class should already be comfortable in a racing shell. The class will enable participants to continue to refine and develop their capacity to navigate the river, row effectively, and gain fitness.
Logbook Sculling
Logbook sculling is a great way to gain access to one of the best rowing spots in the country. Logbook Sculling is for rowers who have passed the CRI Captain’s Tests, both written and practical, and have been cleared to row CRI club singles. These tests are for the rowers’ safety. Logbook scullers may reserve boats up to 3 days in advance through the Logbook Reservation system accessible via their RegattaCentral account. Boats and oars are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Logbook sculling fees are charged by the row to your RegattaCentral account based on the length of the boat reservation.
