Auditors
Individuals seeking Auditor Certification must meet the following requirements:
- Maintain an active individual membership with the CEA for three consecutive years prior to beginning training.
- Current or retired correctional educator with at least five years of experience.
- Submit the Auditor Application and a resume outlining education, professional experience, and references relevant to auditor qualifications.
- Successfully complete all phases of the CEA Auditor Training.
- Receive approval from the CEA Standards Commission.
Auditor Training
The CEA Auditor Training consists of three phases.
Phase 1: Submit an application to become an auditor.
Phase 2: Participate in Auditor Training upon approval by the Standards Commission.
Phase 3: Complete a supervised training audit under the guidance of an experienced auditor. Trainees may receive reimbursement for travel expenses but are not compensated for their time.
Refresher Training
Refresher reviews are held four times per year and are required to remain on the list of approved auditors.
- One review is conducted live (via Teams or a similar platform).
- Three reviews are offered online and may be completed within a designated period of time.
CEA Auditors Compensation
Auditors may receive reimbursement for travel expenses and a stipend for time spent conducting audits. The auditor responsible for writing the audit report will receive a report‑writing fee.
Assignments
Audit assignments are made by the Commission Chair. The CEA will not assign an auditor to any facility where a real or perceived conflict of interest exists. There may be periods of time between assignments.
