No wonder Nancy is sweating bullets. Once you start investigating the deep swamp one never know where it may lead. There a a lot more rumors of Nancy’s being a benefactor of other untoward activities as well as relatives of her position enjoying the largess  .. stay tuned. Good old Solyndra.. the chickens are coming home to roost.

Daily Mail

Barton supports Chu at Solyndra Hearing, Hearing a dud

I watched most of the hearing on the Solyndra, and in my mind, the hearing was a bust. A few choice words to posture and to look good, but a sinking feeling that this Committee is not up to the job. I will pick out two Republicans that are more than happy to give Chu a pass.  Hot Air has a more reasoned analysis of the hearing. Wander there for a bit of a different take.

Every now and then, a Congressman gets on a blogger’s nerve and one feels compelled to follow him as he walks down the leftard path. Supposedly a Republican, I could never conceive that Boehner would appoint Upton to Chair the Energy and Commerce Committee. This is the man that brought us the Light Bulb ban. Now the new wrinkle? Here are a couple of questions and comments:

“Based on what you know and what’s happened, who has to apologize” for Solyndra? Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) asked Chu

It is extremely unfortunate what has happened to Solyndra,” Chu replied, adding, “Was there incompetence? Was there any undue influence? I’d have to say no.”

“So no apology?” Upton followed up. Is that what we are asking for? An apology?

“It’s extremely unfortunate what has happened to Solyndra. You and I both feel the same,” Chu said, adding that the price drops for solar panels caught DOE and others off guard. “This company and several others got caught in a very, very bad tsunami,” he said.

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said he believes the Obama administration may be trying to throw Chu under the bus.

“I do think you’re a man of integrity. I think you’re trying to do your job as best that as you can. I also happen to believe that it’s possible you’re being set up to be the fall guy,” Barton said.
To back up his assertion, Barton cited an email released last week from Dan Carol, the research director of the 2008 Obama campaign, to White House counselor Pete Rouse, suggesting a DOE shakeup that included removing Chu.  The Ligntbulb Ban- One great reason Fred Upton should never lead a House Committee and

GOP picks Fred Upton for Super Congress- we are screwed

  • Upton was one of only 38 House Republicans to support the Democrats’ Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 that removed millions of acres of federal lands from oil and gas leasing, thus driving up energy costs for consumers.
  • Upton was one of only 20 Republicans to vote against an amendment that would have reduced the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 funding to 2008 levels.
  • Upton teamed up with Democrat Jane Harman to pass an invasive energy bill which mandates that only politically-favored “environmentally-friendly” light bulbs be used. That’s right, this guy thinks the Constitution gives him the power to tell you which light bulb you can use.

Obama friends got 80% of DOE Green Energy Loans

We can only hope Mr.Chu makes it to the hearing on Capital Hill regarding the nonsense that has been going on in his fiefdom and he will have an explantion. Billions going out the door in “bad bets” as stated by Obama. For sure, let this item come up for review. Bye bye Nobel Prize winner, time to exit stage left.

A new book by Hoover Institution fellow Peter Schweizer details the startling extent of the cronyism that has pervaded President Obama’s “green jobs” push. According to Schweizer,4 out of every 5 renewable energy companies backed by the Energy Department was “run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers.”H/T:Expose Obama

Hot Air has a great update on the story and links to an interview with Chu- you will laugh yourself silly:

Via William Amos, a sneak preview of what Chu’s planning to tell Congress on Thursday. My favorite part is when he claims that no one at his level was aware of the political affiliations of Solyndra’s backers, even though we now know from e-mails written by George Kaiser himself that Kaiser talked to people in the White House about Solyndra.

Doug Ross spotted the relevant excerpt of Schweizer’s book

When President-elect Obama came to Washington in late 2008,he was outspoken about the need for an economic stimulus to revive a struggling economy… After he was sworn in as president,he proclaimed that taxpayer money would assuredly not be doled out to political friends…

…But an examination of grants and guaranteed loans offered by just one stimulus program run by the Department of Energy, for alternative-energy projects,is stunning. The so-called 1705 Loan Guarantee Program and the 1603 Grant Program channeled billions of dollars to all sorts of energy companies…

…In the 1705 government-backed-loan program [alone],for example, $16.4 billion of the $20.5 billion in loans granted as of Sept. 15 went to companies either run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers—individuals who were bundlers, members of Obama’s National Finance Committee,or large donors to the Democratic Party. The grant and guaranteed-loan recipients were early backers of Obama before he ran for president, people who continued to give to his campaigns and exclusively to the Democratic Party in the years leading up to 2008. Their political largesse is probably the best investment they ever made in alternative energy. It brought them returns many times over….
