🎄 Merry Christmas! Horror 🎄—💎 Horror Gem #122 (2007)
This is one hell of a feel-good Christmas movie. I feel very perky now and ready for Christmas morning.
I somehow doubt my reaction is entirely normal, but how many of us are entirely normal? After all, this is Letterboxd at 6 AM on Christmas morning. That’s not normal. But we can pretend it is awesome.
I loved P2. It’s festive and sparkly with plenty of Christmas feeling, but the meat of it is a dark and gory cat-and-mouse film written by Alexandre Aja and with the tension and intensity to match.
I was not expecting the level of gore here. I was not expecting much of a body count. And I was certainly not expecting to discover one of my favorite Christmas horror films: the reviews were middling, and that’s what I was sure I would get.
This is way better than the score. It’s exhilarating. It’s not a profound masterpiece. It has nothing to say about humanity. But it has an hour-long hunt of a woman by a maniac locked in a parking garage on Christmas Eve, along with an extremely entertaining and satisfying closing sequence. What else could you want from this sort of thing.
P2 is pure fun if you’re anything like me. Give it a shot! It will be good for your holiday spirit.
Strong recommendation. And now I am off to sleep.
