🎄 Holiday & Christmas Horror 🎄 2016 MERRY CHRISTMAS!
"Everyone from the Candy Kingdom is ravenous for flesh, so you know she gives legendary head."
The most weirdly disturbing Christmas horror film I've watched to date. What a surprising start to Christmas day!
I did not expect this to be what it is. The plot is alarming, clever, and plausible enough for the genre. I thought this was going to be a happy light childhood film, but it's honestly a hard R home invasion film that happens to have Christmas as a backdrop. It's more Funny Games than Violent Night.
Olivia DeJonge is made to be a final girl. From the beginning, she shows impeccable slasher/home invasion survival instincts. A protagonist who acts sensibly makes this much more fun. Levi Miller's Luke is equally convincing.
Be prepared for a film that is glossy, festive, and surprisingly brutal. I have never been more annoyed at a child trying to make it through a horror film than I was here. It all works out, in a sense, if a mass casualty event can be considered working out. How festive!
I jest, it's not quite that dark, but that captures a bit of the flavor. It actually unnerved me momentarily and that's not normal.
I think you'll have fun watching this. Recommended? Sure.
