Disability Support Programs

BERDO has been implemented a project titled “Disability Support Program” (no 24001) with the assistance of donor DKBW of Germany at Barisal Sadar Upazila (sub district) from 1st July 2020 to till today excluding financial year of (2021-2022) for the well-being of persons with disabilities. Under this project, activities like micro-level survey on persons with disabilities; formation of 8 self-help groups; 192 meetings of groups; training to Persons with disabilities (PWDs), guardians, teachers, celebration of international day on disabilities. sports activities; engagement of PWDs and their families into income generation activities have been carried out. In 4th phase, different activities have been carried out under this project (Project no- 24002) at Barisal sadar upazila from 1st July 2024 to 30th June 2025 and with these implementation of activities, the project has closed. During this financial year, training on disabilities rights was provided to 50 PWDs by organizing two batches from eight Self-help groups. In addition, 25 family members of PWDs and 25 teachers from 25 government Primary schools were imparted this training. Besides, the members of self-help groups organized 192 meetings and celebrated different days. At sport event, 105 participants received prizes for best performance at sport. To involve PWDS in income generation activities, 6 goats and 28 sewing machines were also distributed among PWDS and their families.

BERDO believes that skill development is necessary for empowerment, capacity building for tacking marginalization and ending of exclusion. Lack of skill contribute in poverty and inequality. That is why; BERDO has established a large Technical Training Centre to provide comprehensive IT training. This IT Training Centre has been proving different kinds of IT training along with market demanded Graphic Design, Web Design and Networking to make participants more skilled in competitive job market. It has increased the employability skill of trainees. So far, about 700 visual impaired student and 1312 youths have received this technical training and some have been engaged in jobs. It was impossible for a visually impaired students / students to get employment without such skill
