WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT
Making a difference starts by being different
We don’t follow the pack. We lead it. Unique in the rescue world, Amanda goes beyond sheltering dogs and cats. We tackle the root causes of pet homelessness head-on, offering an all-encompassing approach that saves lives and strengthens the human-animal bond.
Animal Hospital
- Full-service veterinary hospital
- Advanced pet care
- Supports other rescue organizations
Treating patients.
Sometimes with treats.
We’re the only non-profit in LA that owns and operates a full-service veterinary hospital. This means the precious dogs and cats we rescue receive the medical attention they deserve – from the moment they arrive until they find their forever homes.
But our doors aren’t open only to rescued animals. We’re your trusted neighborhood vet clinic, offering exceptional care for your furry family member. From advanced diagnostics and ultrasound to dentistry and comprehensive lab testing, we’ve got you covered. When you choose the Amanda Foundation for your pet’s needs, you’re not just getting the best, you’re directly supporting our lifesaving rescue and Spaymobile programs.
Spaymobile
- Free spay/neuter services for low-income homes
- Addresses pet overpopulation
- Targets underserved neighborhoods
Tackling pet overpopulation, one paw at a time.
The highest number of impounded pets come from low-income, underserved neighborhoods, so we travel to these areas and offer free spay/neuter procedures and vaccines.
A single unspayed female dog can have up to 12 puppies in a year, and an unspayed cat can have even more – up to 3 litters per year with an average of 5-6 kittens each. This overwhelms shelters, leading to a crisis we refuse to stand by and watch. The Amanda Spaymobile tackles dog and cat overpopulation at its source.
Shelter Rescue
- Rescue from city and county shelters
- Young & old pets welcome
- Safe haven for second chances
Give a new leash on life.
When we rescue animals from crowded LA city and county shelters, we take the young and playful, the old and overlooked, the ones who tug hardest at your heartstrings. Why? Because time and again, these animals have surprised us. They turn out to be housebroken, leash-trained, and overflowing with love to give.
At Amanda, every animal – young, old, healthy, or facing medical challenges – finds a safe haven and a second chance at a loving forever home.
Education Program
- “Creating Compassion” program
- Animals in classrooms
- Inspiring future veterinarians
Strengthening the bond between humans and animals
Compassion isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you learn. That’s why we created “Creating Compassion,” a groundbreaking educational program designed to ignite a love for animals in the hearts of our younger generations.
We bring rescued animals directly into classrooms, forming a connection that transcends words. Children learn firsthand that animals, just like humans, need food, shelter, and most importantly, love. We don’t just teach about responsible pet care, we open their eyes to the fascinating world of veterinary medicine, sparking a passion that could lead to a future career caring for animals. By nurturing compassion in our youth, we’re building a future where every animal is treated with respect and dignity.
Amanda Foundation Firsts:
Leading the Way
in Animal Welfare
- Pioneered spay/neuter ordinance
- 20+ years Spaymobile success
- Pop-up Wellness Clinics
The Amanda Foundation has always been a trailblazer in animal welfare. In 1998, we partnered with the LA City Council to create the nation’s strongest spay/neuter ordinance, a milestone that led to the launch of our Spaymobile, which has been successfully operating for over 20 years and remains the most effective in the country.
Our commitment to community education and support has been a key focus. Our pop-up Wellness Clinics provided essential services like vaccines, exams, and dental care, playing a vital role in keeping pets healthy and in loving homes. We continue to engage with the community through school visits, offering hands-on education to children about caring for and loving dogs and cats.
Currently, we are working closely with the City of LA to address the challenges faced by our shelters, continuing our dedication to animal welfare and community well-being.
"Amanda"
In Latin means “worthy of love”
