AFT xStream, developed by Applied Flow Technology, is a transient simulation tool for compressible flow in gas and steam piping systems. It helps engineers predict how pressure, temperature, and flow will change throughout a network during unsteady events, so they can design safer, more reliable systems and troubleshoot operational issues before they occur.

Key capabilities:

  • Simulates time-dependent scenarios such as startup and shutdown, valve stroking, relief valve opening, blowdown, and compressor trips
  • Predicts pressure surges (gas hammer), choked flow, and high-speed transients to assess system integrity and protection strategies
  • Models complex pipe networks with branches, equipment, controls, and time-varying boundary conditions
  • Supports ideal and real-gas behavior, heat transfer with piping and surroundings, and elevation and friction effects
  • Provides clear visualization and reporting with time histories, animated profiles, and scenario comparisons to evaluate design alternatives
  • Applies across industries including oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, aerospace, and industrial gases

With an intuitive interface and robust transient solver, AFT xStream enables engineers to understand compressible-flow dynamics, verify protection systems, and optimize designs with confidence.

AFT xStream is developed by Applied Flow Technology. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. The name of the program executable file is xStream.exe.
