When people reject offers of shelter, we should be able to enforce city laws. Last week, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the City agreed in court with this point. This was a huge step.
There were a ton of studies in the 70s and 80s linking coffee to heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke and then they were like, whoops! forgot to control for cigarette smoking!
Housing is the answer, not jails.
The barriers to making market-rent housing out of office buildings are pretty high but why not make indoor navigation centers where people can live with their families
Would you accept a “shelter offer” that requires you to leave your pet behind?
What about an “offer” with a strict curfew that means you can’t work your job?
What if this “offer” requires you to trash most of your belongings?
Proper housing is the only solution.
