13 years after dropping out of high school, leaving my home country and starting at a community college, I graduated from Stanford with a PhD last weekend! It takes a village to raise a scientist and I am immensely grateful for the mentors and peers who helped me along the way.

Cancer cells often harbor oncogenes outside chromosomes on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA), which is unevenly inherited by dividing cells. Today we report in @Nature that collectives of ecDNAs are inherited together by dividing cancer cells. 1/

Cancer-driving genes are often encoded by extrachromosomal DNA circles (ecDNA), which segregate unequally during cell division and lead to tumor heterogeneity. Our new paper shows that distinct ecDNAs can be inherited together by dividing cancer cells. 1/ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited that our review paper is out in @NatureSMB! We share our thoughts on gene regulation on extrachromosomal DNA in cancer. Extrachromosomal DNA uncouples oncogene copies from normal chromosome biology and puts oncogene expression into overdrive.
