    Dear actors, Movies in which you play the role of a "hacker" portray us as malicious villains. That stereotype has misled popular culture for decades. Theft and unauthorized access are illegal. The persona described herein is a cybercriminal, not a hacker. #HackingIsNotACrime

    Dear journalists, Unless you are comfortable with someone breaking into your home, stealing the most personal information you have, and making it public, DON’T PUBLISH HACKED DATA Hacking is a crime for a reason. It is theft.

    In 2014 @ADanielHill discovered his girlfriend's medical provider used default credentials. He was threatened, convicted, and incarcerated after disclosing this. On his latest podcast episode, @davidbombal discusses the ethics and legality of his case.

    It's unfortunate @YouTube still refuses to update their content policy, which defines hacking as using "computers or information technology with the intent to steal credentials, compromise personal data or cause serious harm to others." #HackingIsNotACrime

    The timing of yesterday's revision to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act could not have been more auspicious. On this day 24 years ago, members of @L0phtHeavyInd started an unprecedented dialogue that has since materialized into a global movement. For that we're eternally grateful.

    Today is the anniversary of the testimony I and other members of the l0pht gave to the US Senate in 1998. It was the first time the US Govt. publicly referenced “hackers” in a positive context. The coverage was national and even international. Come behind the scenes. /Thread
