Why is the BBC so obsessed with a row over a tennis player's visa in Australia? It relegates important stuff about #ClimateChange down-bulletin and doesn't mention threats to peace, biodiversity, #FoodSecurity, western democracy etc..

So a 31% drop in dangerous driving "proves your point"? Maybe you should take time to think about it?

Meanwhile the Felixstowe-Midlands rail link, a key part of the rail freight network, remains unelectrified, with congested junctions, inadequate signalling and part of it is even single-track. So many freight trains have to use the congested GE, N London & WCML routes.
We’re delighted to announce that the #A14C2H is open for traffic today, 8 months early! We’ll need some closures to do finishing works, to be advertised in advance. Work in Huntingdon continues until 2022. Please remember: only travel during lockdown for essential journeys.

Meanwhile, in Britain, politicians are arguing over how much of big city green belts they can build low-density sprawl on.
Madrid is building 74km forest belt of half a million trees 🌳 around the city to fight extreme heat, air pollution & climate change.IPCC We have so many solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #ClimateCrisis #climate #energy #renewables #biodiversity #IPCC #Cop28

Pretty impossible to protect the rural natural environment if you plan to dump 24 new towns on it, @RachelReevesMP.
As Chancellor, I will protect our rural economy by protecting our natural environment.

Shame to see a once-great newspaper reduced to doing public relations for the house building industry.

How many places in this country could post a similar picture? Land allocated for low-density housing, miles from a railway station, let alone a comprehensive rail network, and needing 100% new education & healthcare infrastructure it's unlikely to get even once built over.
Good agricultural land and beautiful veteran oaks allocated for housing in a Local Plan of course.

If 700,000-1,000,000 consented housing plots haven't been built, it shows just how useless the #NPPF demands on deliverability are. Also how the big commercial incentive of the current system is winning permission and upping the value of the land, not building homes.
Housing secretary Michael Gove has slammed developers for sitting on land rather than building new homes after an investigation by @theipaper found they are hoarding more than a million building plots 🔴 @Victoria_Spratt and @DavidParsley50 report trib.al/St1csXy

Anyone who still believes house building numbers in English local plans aren't dictated by Whitehall and that local authorities still have freedom to decide how many homes they allow to be built should read Mr Jenrick's letter.

Interesting to hear from HS2 supporters why vegetation clearance needs to be done during nesting season and why its security people are unaware of social distancing requirements? Is construction imminent? If not, why this now, other than media attention being directed elsewhere?

Anyone still wedded to carbon-intensive lifestyles should read this. Those planning new roads, airports and sprawl should now start planning for sea level rises above 3 metres which would drown parts of several UK cities and large areas of the country. This is not a joke.
Our @NUGeog researchers have confirmed for the first time that Pine Island Glacier in West Antarctica could cross tipping points, leading to a rapid and irreversible retreat which would have significant consequences for global sea level. Read more at northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/news-…

Building on former rail alignments likely to be needed for sustainable transport is folly. Local plans should safeguard them, not zone them for construction.

So let's remember this next time someone (usually a commercial lobbyist) complains that anyone is a #nimby for opposing people who want to make big profits from trashing their local environment.
The three largest housebuilders used their market power to deliver abnormally large profits and gain an advantage over competitors without dramatically increasing their levels of housing supply, a report shows. buff.ly/3rrc97Q

Confirmation that planning in England is now effectively controlled by Whitehall. What a shame Whitehall is so besotted with #DumbGrowth
