Speaking of Mayor office, transparency, & infuriating behaviour This was a board room where Councillors did City business, met delegations, etc It was inexplicably expropriated for “regular operations” by Mayor office in January Last week forgot to lock door: It’s now a gym?
Picture of the “Grouse Room” formerly a board room with table chairs and AV system for at least a dozen people that was available for councillors doing city business. Since Jan 1, the locks have been changed to bar non-ABC councillors and the board room has been converted to a sort of gym. A peloton machine and chin up bar amidst assorted matts and sundry gym equipment
Memo from City Manager’s office dated Jan 10 of this year advising the Grouse Room - formerly used for councillors needing board room space to do city business - would be repurposed for regular operations of the Mayor and his office team.
    Screenshot of amendment.

“FURTHER THAT the Mayors Office provide a report to a public meeting of Council in October or November of each year with a line-by-line accounting of the Mayor’s Office expenditures, including but not limited to a detailed break down of direct staffing costs, consultants and travel, to improve transparency and accountability of public funds and to inform the next year’s budget decisions.
So the Mayors Office budget 📈 again. This time by $80K. @Vote4ABC Cllrs manipulate procedure to avoid voting on my amendment to increase transparency from the Mayors Office. Then call the question to shut down discussion. Absolutely infuriating behavior from Mayor Sim & ABC.

Tradewar you say? More BC wine and less Alberta beef sounds like a decent lifestyle choice.. I shall toast Premier Notley from a pleasant beachfront vantage overlooking the unspoiled Salish Sea ~ Saluti! Keep Calm and Buy #BCWine

Today, the ABC councillors I thought at least respected me as a peer unanimously voted to censure me, without cause, from even the perfunctory role of duty councillor. I like to say this job requires a big heart and a thick skin. I have both. But today😔

I've now read Vancouver Integrity Commissioner's report (by-law it must be released to public within 48h of delivery to Council). Though Code of Conduct complaints are dismissed - details in the report expose there are untouchable rotten goings-on in the mayor's office. 1/ 7🧵
Kirk LaPointe: Was this what Vancouver council worried its integrity commissioner might disclose? dlvr.it/TBQfg5

WOW. Same day Chip Wilson put up a billboard mocking Premier Eby as a "communist" (and possibly violating the Elections Act), Ken Sim made an official City of Vancouver Day Proclamation for the stretch pants billionaire. CTV's @izavarise was close w/ FOI on just confirmed rumour.
Mayor Ken Sim and Councillor Brian Montague flank Chip Wilson and wife holding proclamation declaring Chip Wilson Day, while standing in Gastown

I've lived in the DTES for the better part of thirty years. I've seen it go from bad to worse, I've seen people chewed up by hard lives and ravaged by addiction and neglect. I've watched kids inherit the struggles and pain of their parents. Today I feel hope. For real hope 1/5

Following ABC-led move to push gas in new construction, we are learning Mayor Ken Sim’s taxpayer-funded senior adviser, is director of two private gas companies. Transparency matters. That's why today I'm calling notice on motion for Oct 23, for a Vancouver lobbyist registry.
Vancouver’s surprise decision this summer to allow natural gas heating in new buildings followed behind-the-scenes discussions & lobbyist meetings that included the top adviser on the Mayor’s payroll, who is also director of 2 private natural gas companies vancouversun.com/opinion/column…

What if we prioritized public toilets & drop-in spaces over costly decampments, sweeps & street flushing? My May 21 resolution asks Council to rethink our approach to street disorder, with drop-ins and public toilets. #VanPoli 🧵 1/6 🔗 council.vancouver.ca/20250521/docum…

Watching ABC struggle to make quorum for the mayor's special meeting to suspend the Integrity Commissioner - I cannot help but wonder if the attending councillors have read the recent IC report, and are ok with the behaviour they are tacitly endorsing

👏🏽Partisan politics aside (for a moment): Walking away from the party apparatus takes a lot of courage and integrity, which VSB Chair Victoria Jung clearly has in abundance. This is not a decision made lightly or without peril, and deserves a lot of respect 🙌🏽

BREAKING, First council appearance in a month, Ken Sim zooms in from vacation overseas to tiebreak a back-of-the-napkin amendment from ABC's Montague to roll back climate work: "Council resolves to allow natural gas for heating and hot water for new construction"
Amendment submitted by Montague reads in part:

"FURTHER THAT, in providing greater clarity about the City’s role in climate action, and to support other Council priorities such as housing affordability, Council resolves to allow natural gas for heating and hot water for new construction, including homes that fall within the Missing Middle Housing Framework given the rapid decarbonization of BC’s gas system such as provincially-stated RNG percentage targets (15% by 2030), hydrogen gas blends, and the adoption of new technologies that would allow for greater choice and more resilient pathways to achieving the City’s desired emission reduction and decarbonization outcomes,"
Votes in opposition to Montague amendment
Carr, Dominato, Boyle, Fry, Meiszner

Votes in favour of "Council resolving to allow natural gas for heating and hot water for new construction"

My goodbye to Twitter👋🏽 I might post here occasionally maybe, but for real engagement find me where the skies are blue. Last night, the last straw. Violent, racist, homophobic garbage directed to my colleague @PeterMeiszner & me. More endemic to 'X' under Elon Musk lately ⬇️🧵
