Delighted and super proud to announce that my book ‘What Every Teacher Needs to Know: How to embed evidence-informed T&L in your school’ is available now to pre-order.
I’m working with a number of schools who are using Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction to guide T&L. I have produced an introductory guide for staff, with examples of how each principle can be implemented in the classroom. Happy to share if helpful?
Thank you so much for everyone who has messaged re my Retrieval Practice Guide. I have had hundreds and hundreds of messages. Please see a link to my drop box for the staff guide and independent study strategies resources.
A link to all of my resources in one place (link at end of thread). Please RT to share further.

This year, our ‘T&L Inquiry’ group have investigated, trialled and evaluated the most effective questioning techniques, in preparation for launching this as a whole-school T&L priority next year. A thread of our findings bellow ❓❓🧠🧠:

Another thread of my most favourite/referred to research papers - this time on cognitive load theory 🧵🧵🧵
1.The super clear & concise guide to CLT including a summary of the theory and main effects/impacts for classroom instruction.
Developing a set of ‘An Introduction to...’ guides. 1/2 page summaries of important aspects of T&L, aiming to provide a basic overview/starting point, including:
✅ Cognitive load theory
✅ Cognitive science
✅ Learning myths
✅ Retrieval practice
Happy to share if useful
A thread of my top papers on Explicit (fully guided) Instruction 🧵🧵:
1. A brilliant paper by @P_A_Kirschner covering the reasons why fully guided instruction is effective, the problems of discovery learning, and both the worked example and expertise reversal effect.
Great paper showing that allowing for thinking time & paired discussion before whole-class questioning (think-pair-share), increases voluntary contributions and reduces pupil anxiety. So important currently!
Really enjoying creating materials to support the implementation of evidence-informed T&L - guidance materials, best practice descriptors, resources to help schools make the principles context specific, CPD materials and reading lists. 🤓🤓
