You're not alone. On holiday many years ago, I shared a room with an RAF engineer officer. He told me that the shower wasn't heating & he had a cold shower. I turned the switch on, the one with the light on it, and had a hot shower...

Once upon a time, you could qualify ad a nurse without a degree. Once upon a time (until the late-1970s) you could qualify as a teacher without a degree. That was when A-levels were regarded as a gold standard & the amount of work needed meant people could only take 3 at a time.

In criminal cases, if your income is over ยฃ22,325, you're not eligible for legal aid and have to meet your legal fees yourself. Why is the taxpayer having to meet BJ's costs when he's reputed to command six-figure fees for a speech on top of a five-figure salary?

The Act disapplies aspects of international law in the UK. Clearly it doesn't disapply aspects of international law in the Republic of Rwanda, a foreign nation with its own legislature... Mrs Cates clearly hasn't thought this through.

These will be locally-recruited Ukrainians working for the Embassy. Of course they, and their immediate families, should be offered refuge in the UK and should have been on the same flight/bus/train as the British staff. We do owe those people that.

Since these are people employed locally by the British Embassy, I would have thought that the necessary anti-terrorism checks would have already been done on them and their immediate family. There are some really silly people on Twitter!

Except, if I've understood correctly, the visa application centres are outsourced to a private provider rather than run by Home Office civil servants. Doubtless the staff are on minimum wage. That's what you get by outsourcing.

I knew a guy once who'd trained his GSDs not to accept food until they'd paid for it with a handshake. It meant they'd not take treats from strangers so there was little risk of them being poisoned or drugged. This dog may have been trained in the same way and for those reasons.

I've just had solar panels fitted. Any surplus energy can be exported to the grid. The responsible network company has limited my export to 4kWh as its system can't cope. If I pay them ยฃ5k, they'll let me export the full 5kWh the solar system produces... Not fit for future.

Why she had to take Chinook is beyond me. A civilian helo could have been hired for the day and is much more comfortable (I've been in a Chinook, thanks). Even a Gazelle or Wildcat (successor to the Lynx) would be cheaper to operate. 2/2

The RAF will quote two rates per flying hour; full cost (which includes crew pay, subsistence, oils & fuel, maintenance etc.) and the operating cost which is lower. Crew salary and some other items have to be paid anyway. 1/2

JRM is wrong - we have not moved, constitutionally, to a presidential system. In my lifetime: Callaghan replaced Wilson, Major replaced Thatcher, Brown replaced Blair, & May replaced Cameron & then was replaced by BoJo ALL without an election & as recently as 2.5 years ago...
