Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Trinidad & Tobago and Zimbabwe have been newly-elected as members of the UN Security Council for 2027-28. The UK looks forward to working with each of those nations to tackle the complex global challenges facing our world today.

Appalled and saddened to learn of death of a UN peacekeeper and injuries to two others in south Lebanon today. The UK strongly condemns all attacks against @UNIFIL_ personnel. Their safety and ability to carry out their mandate must be assured.

A UNIFIL peacekeeper died early this morning from critical injuries sustained when mortar shells struck his position near Marjayoun, southeastern Lebanon. Two other peacekeepers, who also sustained injuries, are being treated at a medical facility in the UNIFIL base.

She was in every sense a legend. Warm, funny, couldn’t do enough for everyone, with an infectious laugh. Always smiling. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
