Propylene Carbonate

  • Propylene Carbonate

Propylene Carbonate is a clear solvent that is classified as an exempt compound by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the purposes of calculating VOCs.   Propylene Carbonate is non-reactive with isocyanates and is therefore often used in the manufacture or polyurethane and polyurea prepolymers.  Propylene carbonate is often used as a reactive diluent in polyurea systems,  and is also used as a solvent in surface cleaners, degreasers, dyes and plastics.  Propylene Carbonate will react with amines that contain active hydrogens to produce urethane linkages.

Propylene carbonate is supplied as a low viscosity liquid at 1.6 cSt at 43.3C.
