Publication Formats

Publish with transcript

Academic publishing has been subject to profound change in recent years. The publishing landscape has become much more diverse, it has turned towards the digital and towards Open Access publications. We meet these developments with great openness and understand hybrid publishing as the most effective mode of research publishing today.

Therefore, almost all of our titles are published as both print and e-books. We continuously follow the highest quality standards regarding our titles’ looks and physical features.

We would be happy to advise you personally on your publication project: Feel free to contact us!

Print Books

We stand for a fresh and modern, neat appearance and high-quality design of our print editions:

  • Cover: four-color (CMYK) print on sturdy 280g coated paperboard with a matt laminate finish
  • Binding: high-quality, durable glue binding
  • Paper: age-resistant paper in a reader-friendly cream tone; alternatives are possible
  • Printing process: high quality production on demand
  • Illustrations: black and white or color, freely placeable
E-Books

Generally, our e-books are published in PDF format; some of our titles are additionally released as EPUB.

PDF-E-Books:

  • standard format in scientific publishing
  • citable due to identical pagination to the print edition
  • bookmarks facilitate navigation between the chapters
  • a DOI (see below) ensures permanent, worldwide findability – even at chapter level
  • dense, comprehensive metadata for efficient retrieval and management in libraries and stores
  • full-text index with metadata and abstracts at chapter level improve visibility and usability (in cooperation with abstracting & indexing services, e.g. OCLC, Exlibris or Google)

EPUBs (on request):

  • optimized for mobile devices
  • standard for non-fiction books
  • variable page layout improves readability (but restricts the ability to cite)

Digital Object Identifier (DOI):

As a member of the Publishers International Linking Association (PILA), we support the CrossRef initiative in order to disseminate our publications sustainably. To this end, we use the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) – a unique identifier for digital content:

  • We register every digital work – whether book, chapter or journal article – with the CrossRef agency.
  • The work receives a unique DOI as a permanent »web address«. This remains valid even if the storage location changes.
  • The additional ORCID identifier means that you and your publication can be found and cited worldwide in the long term – an effective tool for scientific research.

Digital Rights Management (DRM):

We provide every e-book with »soft« copy protection (watermark). This protects your work from unlawful use – but at the same time ensures that it can be used as comfortably as possible.
