FAQ’s
Script Coverage is a reader’s thorough analysis of a writer’s work. Coverage started out in Studios where readers were employed to read countless scripts so that the producers didn’t have to! These reports were purely for internal use, with the reader marking a script with a Pass, Recommend, or Consider. Scripts that were marked Recommend would get passed up the food chain. The writer would never be privy to these comments.
Our coverage service is different from that. Our sole intention is to help writers create a better draft of their work. To get it to a point where it’s ready to be sent out to people in the industry. We are completely honest about what we feel does and doesn’t work, giving clear reasons for our opinions. When analyzing a screenplay, our readers focus on and write about the Premise & Theme, Hook, Stakes & Plot, Characters, Dialogue & Sound, Structure, Producibility, and overall Presentation, and provide a Conclusion. We make actionable suggestions throughout the coverage as to how the writer can improve their story.
We offer different types of feedback, so it’s worth checking out which is best for you.
We offer the following coverage options:
2-Page Script Coverage for Treatments – 2 pages of notes giving feedback on your treatment, providing key feedback on the contents, your logline, story or series breakdown, character roles, and suggestions for your pitch. The perfect preparation for marketing your story.
2-Page Script Coverage for the first 10 pages of your script – 2 pages of notes giving feedback on the first 10 pages of your Feature or Pilot script, giving detailed feedback on your logline, the opener, establishment, backstory, potential for narrative & character arcs, and conflict. Development suggestions are tailored to your story’s premise.
3-Page Script Coverage – 3 pages of constructive notes giving feedback on your script’s Premise & Theme, Hook, Stakes & Plot, Characters, Dialogue & Sound, Structure & Pace, Producibility, and overall Presentation. Plus a Conclusion that provides a summary of your script’s key strengths and areas for improvement. It includes an industry scorecard.
6-Page Script Coverage – 6 pages of actionable development notes giving feedback on your script’s Premise & Theme, Hook, Stakes & Plot, Characters, Dialogue & Sound, Structure & Pace, Producibility, and overall Presentation. Plus a Conclusion that provides a summary of your script’s key strengths and areas for improvement. This includes a Synopsis and an industry scorecard.
10-Page Script Coverage – 10 pages of detailed development notes giving feedback on your script’s Premise & Theme, Hook, Stakes & Plot, Characters, Dialogue & Sound, Structure & Pace, Producibility, and overall Presentation. Plus a Conclusion that provides a summary of your script’s key strengths and areas for improvement. This includes a Synopsis, and an industry scorecard. Our most comprehensive & detailed feedback option.
Proofreading – Script readers always pick up on spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting mistakes, so it’s essential that your script is polished before sending it out into the industry. We will go through your screenplay and mark up errors and items for improvement, including any necessary formatting corrections
It’s hard to step back and look at your own work objectively when you’ve been so close to it for so long, but feedback is essential. Coverage offers an objective look at your script by someone who not only understands story inside and out, but also the industry. If you send your script to a studio, agent, or producer, and if your screenplay actually gets read, you’ll never be privy to the notes that were written by the reader, meaning you’ll never get the chance to address the issues raised in their report. With coverage, you can, helping you make your script industry-ready.
We accept Treatments/Outlines (i.e. short prose texts of up to 10 pages intended to capture your story idea), Short Film scripts, Web/TV Pilots, and Feature screenplays.
Having constructive honest feedback is crucial in order to get your screenplay to a point where it’s ready to be sent out into the world. Our readers have read for some of the top production companies in the world. We deliver comprehensive notes that cover all aspects of your screenplay. We strongly believe that we offer the best coverage service out there. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
You will receive your coverage within 2-5 days. Within 7 days if you request a specific reader.
Each month, the top Feature or TV Pilot that comes through our Coverage service is sent to Verve – with the writer’s permission – who have agreed to write up an industry-focused report on each script.
And what’s more, if a reader recommends that our senior staff read your script, we will do so. If we feel that it’s suited for someone on our roster, we will approach the writer to see if they are happy for us to send it out.
So, yes, if we love your work, we’ll get it out to our industry and/or directors roster.
No. We don’t ever hold any rights over your work.
Absolutely. We have worked with writers from all over the world. However, all scripts must be written in English.
Our readers have read for some of the most successful production companies in the world, including Universal, Working Title, Lionsgate, Vertigo Films, BBC, Anchor Bay Ent, Creative Europe Media, The Fyzz, Austin Film Festival, Wildgaze, Goldfinch, and others. They are also produced writers and filmmakers with hands-on experience in the craft and the Film/TV industry.
Our readers have a wealth of experience and a wide diversity of experience. To help align your script with the right reader, you are able to specify a Genre and enter Comments for the Reader on the submission form. If you have used one of our readers before and would like them to read your work again, you can do so in the submission form. This is charged with an additional fee of 15%.
We understand that sometimes feedback may include some points that you don’t completely agree with. You are welcome to reach out with any questions, or if you have serious concerns about your coverage, please contact us with the details and we’ll get back to you asap.
Shore Scripts does not use any AI systems to review and evaluate screenplays entered for coverage or contest submissions. Every script is read and coverage notes are written by our experienced team of script readers. Go to our Team page to see more information on our readers.
Recommended Page Lengths (Not including the Title Page) are as follows:
Feature scripts should ideally be within 80-120 pages. Anything over 120 pages will be charged an additional fee of $1 per page (to a maximum of 30 additional pages).
1-Hour TV Pilots should be within 40-65 Pages.
½-Hour TV Pilots, Short film scripts and Web Series pilot scripts should be under 35 Pages. Anything over 35 pages will be charged an additional fee of $1 per page (to a maximum of 15 additional pages)
For our 2-page reports, we only accept the first 10 pages of Features and Pilots, or Treatments up to 10 pages long for Features, TV Pilots, and Shorts. For Treatments, anything over 10 pages will be charged at $1 per page, to a maximum of 10 additional pages.
*If your script is considerably shorter or longer than our recommended lengths, please contact us to see if we can accommodate it for you.
A logline is not compulsory when submitting completed scripts, but when submitting your First 10 Pages for a 2-page coverage report, we strongly recommend that you include one. This will ensure that the reader better understands the proposed concept, and can give feedback based on, and specific to, your vision for the final script.
