ABOUT OUR FILM FUND WINNER

Hannah Leopard is a writer/director from East London. Her films have screened at Oscar-qualifying film festivals and picked up awards internationally. Her recent screenplay “Horny” won a screenwriting prize at the Shore Scripts Short Film Fund.

Hannah earned a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, followed by a Diploma in Script Development from the National Film and Television School.  She went on to work in development at the Oscar-nominated Wildgaze Films. The desire to tell her own stories led her to a filmmaking course at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, where she began writing and directing.

Hannah is fascinated by the psychological, recurring themes such as vulnerability or the masks we wear to prevent ourselves from being seen, the relationship between desire and control, sexuality and freedom, patriarchy and feminism, which often appear in her work. Her way of seeing is influenced by her long-term meditation & yoga practice and as such her films often have a spiritual or psycho-mystical undertone.

Hannah came to filmmaking after a fruitful Rhythmic Gymnastics career as six-time British Champion, Commonwealth Games Champion (2002) and Athens Olympian (2004).
