EFFECTS

Consequence modelling software for safety and design optimisation.

EFFECTS from Gexcon is an advanced yet user-friendly software tool to analyse the consequences of the accidental release of flammable and toxic substances in process industries. It calculates heat radiation from fires, overpressure from explosions, toxic concentrations and doses from dispersion clouds, and much more.

Frequently asked questions

EFFECTS can be used for a wide range of studies including (but not limited to):

  • Consequence information for Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Consequence information for QRA.
  • Sensitivity analysis.
  • Hazardous Area Classification (HAC).
  • Emergency preparedness planning.
  • Regulatory compliance.
  • Facility siting and layout optimisation.
  • New facility development or existing facility modification.
  • Incident investigation.
  • Other studies require preliminary consequence evaluation.

EFFECTS presents consequences of Loss of Containment scenarios expressed in (among others) flow rates and release duration, flame dimensions and radiation levels, overpressure levels and gas concentrations, which are often a function of distance or X, Y location relative to its release coordinate.

The results from EFFECTS are presented in various formats, including numerical values, graphs, and contours. Various export formats are available to accommodate different needs, including Excel sheets (.xlsx), word documents, and shape files for the export of consequence contours.

EFFECTS also features an integrated GIS environment, allowing you to use your own maps, drawings, or online satellite data from various sources as the background for your result contours. This makes it easier to present your results in a clear and effective way.

EFFECTS offers flexible licensing options, including standalone, network and cloud licensing. Please contact our product specialists through the contact form to assist you in determining the ideal solution tailored to your specific requirements.

EFFECTS is intended for Microsoft Windows 10 or above with a 64-bit environment and needs a modern PC with no special requirements. To learn more about the installation procedures, please get in touch with our technical specialists through the contact form.

Current customers can download EFFECTS from the Download Portal.

For those who are not existing customers but are interested in trying EFECTS, we offer a free viewing demo of the software where you can explore the already calculated results for several scenarios, including tank pit fires, ammonia releases, gasoline pool fires, long pipeline rupture and LPG tank ruptures, BLEVE and dispersion., including tank pit fires, ammonia releases, gasoline pool fires, long pipeline rupture and LPG tank ruptures, BLEVE and dispersion.

You can access our Knowledge Base for detailed guides on using EFFECTS, including software configuration, understanding the interface and functionalities, and practical use case examples.

If you prefer direct guidance from our experts, we offer EFFECTS training courses which can be delivered in-person or online.

This course is an introductory-level course which is tailored for new users or current users who have not yet attended the training course. It has a practical approach with the purpose of enabling participants to have the ability to use EFFECTS for their projects by the end of the course.
