Experience is valuable, but it has its limits. In many facilities, dust is handled every day without incident. Over time, that can create a sense of familiarity. And with it, assumptions about safety. The challenge is that combustible dust hazards aren’t always visible. The risk depends on factors such as particle size, dispersion, oxidiser, confinement, and ignition sources. And these aren’t always obvious during normal operations. Without testing, you’re relying on experience rather than evidence. Testing gives you the data to understand: ✔︎ Whether your dust can ignite ✔︎ How sensitive it is to ignition ✔︎ What conditions increase the risk ✔︎ How severe an explosion could be This forms the basis for a meaningful Dust Hazard Analysis and helps ensure your safety measures are aligned with the actual risk. At Gexcon, we support combustible dust testing using recognised methods, and help you interpret the results in a way that’s useful for real decisions. 👉 Learn more about Gexcon's combustible dust testing solutions: https://lnkd.in/eCif5Fmk Or contact info@gexcon.com #processsafety #combustibledust #dustexplosion #industrialsafety #safetyengineering #explosionprotection #dusthazardanalysis

How do you know if your dust is safe? Dust doesn’t always appear to be an explosion hazard. But under the right conditions, it can be. You might think: “We’ve handled this material for years” “We’ve never had an incident” “It’s probably not explosive” But these are only assumptions. Don’t wait for an accident to prove otherwise. Testing gives you the data you need to understand the risk: ✔︎ Can your dust ignite? ✔︎ How sensitive it is to ignition? ✔︎ What conditions are needed for ignition? ✔︎ How severe could an explosion be? This data forms the basis for your Dust Hazard Analysis, process and design optimisation, as well as safety measures. Dust doesn’t always appear to be an explosion hazard. But under the right conditions, it can be.

You might think:

“We’ve handled this material for years”

✔︎ How sensitive it is to ignition?
✔︎ What conditions are needed for ignition?
✔︎ How severe could an explosion be?
