Shockwave Therapy
Solomons, Maryland
If you've tried other treatments without lasting relief, shockwave therapy may be the solution you've been looking for. At Baca Chiropractic, we offer FDA-cleared shockwave therapy for chronic pain, soft tissue injuries, and joint conditions — no surgery, no injections, no downtime.
What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is an innovative, FDA-cleared treatment that delivers high-energy acoustic waves to injured or painful areas of the body. These waves stimulate your body's natural healing response — increasing blood flow, breaking down calcified tissue, reducing inflammation, and promoting cellular repair.
The result is faster recovery and lasting pain relief without the risks associated with surgery or long-term medication use. Shockwave therapy is especially effective for conditions that have been resistant to other treatments including physical therapy, cortisone injections, or chiropractic adjustments alone.
How It Works
A handheld device delivers controlled acoustic pulses deep into the targeted tissue. These pulses trigger several healing mechanisms simultaneously:
Benefits of Shockwave Therapy
Non-Invasive
No incisions, needles, or anesthesia required. Treatment is delivered externally through the skin with no recovery period.
Drug-Free Relief
Reduce or eliminate reliance on pain medications by addressing the underlying tissue condition rather than masking symptoms.
Rapid Results
Many patients experience meaningful improvement within 3–5 sessions. Some notice relief after the first treatment.
Reduced Inflammation
Acoustic waves decrease pain receptor activity and reduce swelling — addressing both the pain signal and its source.
Restored Mobility
As inflammation subsides and tissue heals, joint flexibility and range of motion return — often dramatically.
Long-Term Healing
Stimulates tissue regeneration for lasting results — not just temporary relief. The healing continues after treatment ends.
Minimal Downtime
Most patients return to normal activity immediately after treatment. No post-procedure restrictions in most cases.
Enhances Other Treatments
Works powerfully alongside chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and rehabilitation exercises for comprehensive results.
Conditions Treated with Shockwave Therapy
Dr. Baca uses shockwave therapy to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions — particularly those that have been resistant to other treatments. Shockwave is effective for both chronic and acute conditions across the entire musculoskeletal system.
Spinal Conditions
- Chronic lower back pain Reduces inflammation and promotes spinal tissue healing
- Sciatica Relieves pressure on the sciatic nerve for improved mobility and pain relief
- Disc degeneration & bulging discs Promotes blood flow and reduces inflammation around affected discs
- Neck pain & cervical conditions Addresses chronic cervical muscle tension and soft tissue injury
- Thoracic outlet syndrome Reduces soft tissue compression contributing to nerve symptoms
Shoulder Conditions
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy Stimulates healing in damaged rotator cuff tendons
- Calcific tendinitis Breaks down calcium deposits causing shoulder pain and restricted motion
- Shoulder impingement syndrome Reduces inflammation and promotes tissue repair in the subacromial space
- Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) Loosens adhesions and reduces pain to improve range of motion
Elbow Conditions
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) One of the most studied and successfully treated conditions with shockwave
- Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) Stimulates tendon repair at the medial epicondyle
Hip & Knee Conditions
- Hip bursitis & greater trochanteric pain Reduces bursal inflammation and promotes surrounding tissue healing
- Hip osteoarthritis Improves circulation and reduces pain in arthritic hip joints
- IT band syndrome Breaks down adhesions and reduces lateral knee pain
- Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee) Stimulates repair in the patellar tendon for athletes and active patients
- Knee osteoarthritis Reduces inflammation and promotes cartilage health in arthritic knees
Foot & Ankle Conditions
- Plantar fasciitis One of shockwave's most effective applications — reduces heel pain and promotes fascial healing
- Achilles tendinopathy Stimulates collagen production and reduces chronic Achilles pain
- Heel spurs Reduces pain associated with calcaneal spurs without surgical removal
Soft Tissue Conditions
- Myofascial trigger points Deactivates pain-generating trigger points throughout the body
- Scar tissue & adhesions Breaks down restrictive scar tissue to restore normal tissue mobility
- Chronic muscle pain & tension Reduces substance P and muscle hypertonicity for lasting relief
- Sports injuries Accelerates recovery for athletes dealing with chronic or resistant injuries
What to Expect During Treatment
Each shockwave therapy session is performed in the office with no special preparation required. Dr. Baca applies a handheld applicator to the treatment area and delivers controlled acoustic pulses to the targeted tissue. Treatment typically takes 5–15 minutes depending on the area and condition being treated.
You may feel mild discomfort during treatment as the waves reach deeper tissue — this is normal and typically well-tolerated. Some patients report temporary soreness in the treated area for 24–48 hours after a session, similar to post-exercise soreness. This is part of the body's healing response.
Most patients return to normal daily activity immediately after treatment. High-impact athletic activity may be limited for 24–48 hours following a session.
Your First Visit
Evaluation

A personalized protocol is developed — including targeted treatment areas, energy settings, and number of recommended sessions.
First Session
The applicator is applied to the treatment area and acoustic pulses are delivered. Most sessions take 5–10 minutes.
Follow-Up Sessions
Sessions are spaced 3-5 days apart to allow the healing response to progress between treatments.
