Our Story

Our story begins with experience. In his youth, Marcel Gemme faced addiction himself and later spent years working as an intake specialist in a rehab facility. He saw, up close, how overwhelming the journey can be, not just for the individual but for the families who love them. With so many treatment options and approaches available, he realized how difficult it was to find a program that truly fits.

In 2009, Marcel founded Drug Rehab Services (DRS), a family-run initiative built on compassion, clarity, and trust. His goal was simple: create a reliable place where people could find help they can believe in.

Our Commitments

Independence and Ethics

DRS has no affiliation with any treatment provider. Every visitor is free to contact any program directly, there’s never any obligation to call our hotline or attend a specific treatment. When you reach out for help, the choice is entirely yours.

At DRS, our mission is to connect you with reliable, ethical, and high-quality resources for substance use treatment. We never list programs we wouldn’t recommend to one of our own loved ones. Be cautious of facilities that promise a quick fix or immediately focus on your finances, both can signal that your best interests aren’t their priority.

Medical Accuracy and Quality Information

Every piece of educational content on Addicted.org is written or reviewed by professionals with firsthand experience in addiction care. Our medical review team, led by Dr. Rohit Adi (MD) and Michael Leach (CCMA), ensures all information reflects the latest research, evidence-based practices, and public health data.

Content is updated regularly, fact-checked, and guided by reputable sources like SAMHSA, NIDA, and peer-reviewed journals.

Comprehensiveness and Reliability

Our team has spent thousands of hours researching to build one of the most complete and ethical directories of addiction treatment providers in North America. Each listing is vetted, verified, and continuously reviewed to ensure accuracy and trust. Our team continuously reviews centers to ensure the information you seek is up to date. If you spot an error, our editorial team welcomes corrections directly at communications@addicted.org and we act promptly to review and update it.

Education through First-hand experience

While helping people find recovery is at the heart of what we do, education and prevention are just as vital. Recovery begins with knowledge. Many of our team members have lived or worked through addiction firsthand, that perspective shapes everything we create. Through this experience, we develop resources that inform, empower, and prevent addiction before it starts, always grounded in empathy and real-world understanding.

Our Mission & Philosophy

Our mission is to guide people toward recovery with honesty, compassion, and respect. These six principles shape every decision we make, from the way we research to the way we listen.

Empathy

Empathy is understanding others by listening with compassion and seeing through their eyes. It reminds us that every story is unique and every struggle is human. Through empathy, we connect, support, and walk alongside those on their journey to recovery.

Integrity

Integrity is doing what’s right, even when it’s hard or unseen. It means being honest in our words, consistent in our actions, and ethical in every decision. We honor our commitments and build trust through authenticity and reliability.

Dignity and Respect

Dignity and respect guide how we treat every person — clients, families, and colleagues alike. We recognize each individual’s worth and create spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard. Respect builds trust; dignity restores hope.

Responsibility

Responsibility is owning our actions and their impact. We hold ourselves accountable to those we serve and to each other. By acting with care, reliability, and purpose, we strengthen the foundation of trust that recovery depends on.

Transparency

Transparency means being open, honest, and clear in all we do. We share information freely, communicate with integrity, and welcome feedback. Transparency fosters trust, understanding, and collaboration at every level.

Empowerment

Empowerment is helping others realize their strength and potential. We provide tools, knowledge, and support so individuals can make informed choices and take control of their recovery. Empowerment transforms obstacles into opportunities for growth.

Why Seek the Help of a Rehab Placement Specialist?

Finding the right treatment shouldn’t add more stress to an already painful situation. That’s why our rehab placement specialists are here to listen, understand, and help you find the right care, without pressure or judgment.

When you call our helpline, you’ll speak with a trained professional who listens to your situation with empathy and respect. They’ll help you understand the different levels of care, from detox to outpatient programs, and explain what each option involves, all without judgment or pressure.

Because Addicted.org is not affiliated with any treatment facility, the guidance you receive is completely independent and unbiased. The goal is not to sell a service, but to ensure you’re informed and supported in finding the right path to recovery. Every call is free and confidential, giving you a safe space to ask questions, express concerns, and take the first step toward help at your own pace.

Our Latest Achievement: The SUPE Program

At Drug Rehab Services, we’re proud to share one of the projects closest to our hearts: SUPE (Substance Use Prevention Education).

This initiative grew from what we see every day: people and families wishing they had known more before addiction took hold. SUPE was built to change that. It’s a free, evidence-based prevention program that uses short videos, stories, and interactive lessons to help people understand how substance use begins and how to stop it before it starts.

The program reaches students, teachers, parents, first responders, and seniors; anyone who wants to be part of the solution. Our team of educators and addiction specialists poured years of field experience into every lesson, blending scientific accuracy with compassion and real-world insight.

At the core of SUPE is a simple belief: a fulfilling, drug-free life is possible and worth celebrating. Each module gives participants the knowledge and confidence to make healthier choices and to help others do the same.

We’ve already seen the impact: classrooms discussing prevention openly, families starting tough conversations, and communities using our resources to guide local awareness events.

SUPE isn’t just an education program, it’s our promise to make prevention accessible, practical, and human.

The DRS Scholarship

The DRS Scholarship is our way of investing in the next generation of advocates. Each year, we award $1,000 to a student whose original essay best shows how education and awareness can reduce substance use in their community.

Many of us at DRS know firsthand the power of education and second chances. This scholarship is our way of paying that forward, supporting future advocates who bring compassion, understanding, and purpose to prevention and recovery.

Every submission is carefully reviewed by our team, ensuring fairness, integrity, and genuine recognition for students leading change.

Our Team

Marcel Gemme - Founder and CEO

For over 20 years, Marcel Gemme has dedicated his life to helping people overcome addiction and rebuild their lives. His journey began in 2000 as an intake counselor at a drug rehabilitation center, where he saw firsthand how overwhelming and isolating the recovery process can be. Determined to reach more people than he could one-on-one, Marcel launched his first addiction resource website in 2004. As the need for reliable information and ethical guidance grew, he founded Drug Rehab Services (DRS) in 2009 and created Addicted.org, now one of North America’s leading hubs for substance use resources.

Marcel’s vision for DRS is built on three pillars, education, prevention, and rehabilitation, reflecting his belief that recovery begins with understanding and compassion. Over the years, his work has helped thousands of families find trustworthy information, ethical treatment options, and renewed hope for recovery.
