People enjoy listening to music from newly discovered artists due to a combination of dopamine-driven excitement, intellectual stimulation from identifying new musical patterns, and the “self-congruity effect”, where they find an artist’s sound matches their personality.  This initial thrill of discovery offers a unique emotional experience and a break from familiar patterns.  Some people only like the older music that they have been listening to for their whole lives, due to nostalgia, emotional comfort, and the lasting impact of music discovered during their formative youth.  Young people (under 30) are significantly more likely to discover and listen to new music, with 79% enjoying finding new music compared to only 45% of older generations.  This demographic frequently uses social media (51% of 16–24-year-olds) and streaming platforms like SoundCloud or TikTok or Snapchat to find artists.  Gen Z and Young Millennials, categorized as adults between the ages of 18 and 29, are more likely to listen to newer music.  80% of these younger generation will use their mobile phones to listen to music.  Select streaming services have surpassed public radio stations, in terms of preferred music providers, particularly among listeners under the age of 30.

Last week we had April Music Birthdays where the theme was to find a song written or performed by someone who was born in the month of April.  This week the theme is to find a song by an artist that you just discovered.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you can as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possible that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Tell everyone why you like the song, whether it was a hit, or what you think the song is about.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the theme, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

Suggestions
• Try to use the prompt words or at least conform to a general theme, as you see it.  If the song you select does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• It would be good if you could post the lyrics to the song of your choice, as this is helpful for the people that want to follow along with the music.  Warning: Bloggers make posts at their own risk, and since song lyrics are copyrighted, you may be asked to take them down from your post if you don’t have permission.  It is highly unlikely estates or artists will sue regular people (although it has happened) especially if the bloggers that do this are not making money from their site, but an artist or a publisher can ask you to remove the lyrics from your post.  I am not a lawyer and there are no rules for Song Lyric Sunday, as we are all here to have fun and hopefully get to listen to some good music.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due. It would also be a good idea to give credit to the singer and the band associated with your song.
• Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but please try not to include too many videos as that just makes it take longer to look at all of the other posts.
• Link to the YouTube video, or you can pull it into your post, so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

  1. Good Sunday Jim! Just for curiosities sake- do you golf often? I am assuming so since you chose it as your A to Z topic- but I was just wondering.

Let’s see. What is new with me. My cars O2 sensor is on the blink. I am getting my hair trimmed Thursday, my summer tires on the first Monday in May and my therapist cancelled my Friday appointment without letting me know and… I guess that was this week’s highlights.

Whatever you do be good at it! And thanks for all you do.

    1. I have not played golf in a few years, because I don’t have any friends and I don’t enjoy golfing by myself. I don’t understand why anyone needs a therapist, but if you enjoy that and you think it is helping, then you should keep going. I got a late start today and I had to change my glucose monitor which slowed me down and then my speakers gave out, so I was without sound. This happened the other day when I lost power, so I had to go into some advanced speaker settings and I hope I have this worked out now, as I am tired of rebooting my computer to get them working again.

      1. I see a therapist mainly because I have so many truths in my life that are better off not discussed with the general public. I mean not everyone wants to know the life lessons you learned being raised in a high control religion or the things/people/events I still think about because the majority of my life I was kind of on the moral/ethical fringe. you know what I mean? I know I allude to parts of it in my writing- but there- if it offends someone- they can just move on…..
