WorldPainter by pepsoft.org is a free, cross-platform map generator and editor for Minecraft that lets you create custom worlds outside the game using a painterly, brush-based interface. Sculpt mountains and valleys, paint biomes and terrain materials, and add details like trees, snow, caves, and resources. You can import heightmaps or images to start from real-world data or concept art, then refine the terrain with smoothing and erosion tools for natural results. Place custom structures from common object formats (such as schematics), control water levels and beaches, and define borders for clean edges or seamless transitions.

WorldPainter exports directly to Minecraft Java Edition worlds and can blend new terrain into existing saves with fine control over chunk boundaries. It supports multiple layers, unlimited undo/redo, and responsive previews so you can iterate quickly.
