WHNR – Women’s Health Northern Rivers (formerly NORWACS) is a feminist, community-based charity that has provided health and wellbeing services, support and advocacy to the diversity of women in the Northern Rivers for over 40 years.
At Women Health Northern Rivers, we provide a safe, inclusive, and confidential space where women can access a wide range of health and wellbeing services.
Our counselling team offers a safe, confidential space to talk through life’s challenges.
Respectful, confidential support for women experiencing or recovering from domestic and family violence.
Appointments with our specialist women’s health nurse and midwife are available in-clinic or over the phone.
We run a variety of therapeutic, educational and social groups designed to support, educate and empower participants.
Our welcoming space offers supportive listening, information on women’s health topics, and referrals to trusted services – available in-person or over the phone.
We recognise that women’s health is shaped by a range of social, emotional, cultural, and economic factors. We work to challenge the impacts of gender inequality and discrimination, and to create systems and spaces that support women’s autonomy, dignity, and wellbeing.
Our approach is inclusive, trauma-informed, and grounded in respect. We welcome all women and aim to provide care that reflects the diversity of women’s lives and experiences. We support informed decision-making and advocate for services that are safe, equitable, and responsive.
At WHNR, we offer a safe, confidential and welcoming space where women are supported by other women. Whether you’re seeking information, connection or practical support, our team is here to listen, respect and walk alongside you.
Women’s Health Northern Rivers is committed to the achievement of a society in which all relationships are free from abuse, and embrace the feminist principles of self-determination, empowerment and freedom of choice for all women.

Established in 1979 as the Richmond Women’s Emergency Centre, the service has grown from a grassroots movement into a comprehensive, community-based organisation offering holistic support.
Over the decades, WHNR has expanded its reach through mergers, outreach programs, and culturally inclusive services, including the Women’s Health & Resource Centre and Heartfelt House.

Women’s Health Northern Rivers acknowledges the Widjabul Wia-bal people of the Bundjalung Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work, and play.
We pay deep respect to Elders past and present, and honour the leadership of emerging Elders.
We extend our respect to all Bundjalung clan groups, and recognise the ongoing cultural and spiritual connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country – land, waters and sky.
We especially acknowledge the Bundjalung women who continue to care for Country, and the knowledge, wisdom and stories they share.
We are grateful to live and work on this land, and remain committed to walking together towards better health and social outcomes.
