Gifts

Donations to the Weatherford College libraries are appreciated and encouraged; however, acceptance of materials must be limited to those which specifically support the curriculum of the college or approved campus groups and activities and do not unnecessarily duplicate owned materials.

  • The library accepts high-quality materials of scholarly, artistic, or scientific merit.  These items may include books, video recordings, and archival items pertinent to our collection.
  • Donations of archival items or items relevant to special collections such as the Speaker Jim Wright Collection or Jack Knight Collection shall be accepted only on the condition that the library has full control over the viewing and handling of said items.  Archival items which fall into these categories are subject to all permanent library policies and procedures.
  • Large donations should be inventoried prior to donation and include the author, title, ISBN, edition, publisher, and year of publication.
  • The following items are generally not accepted as donations or gifts:  outdated textbooks, popular magazines, paperback books (exceptions will be made for outstanding academic materials), duplicates to our holdings, mass-market books, encyclopedias, realia, and materials in poor condition.
  • Realia donations are subject to librarian approval on an individual basis.  Items not accepted will be returned to the donator.
  • Accepted materials are subject to the same criteria for addition to the collection as purchased materials.
  • The Speaker Jim Wright Library reserves the right to accept or reject gifts without restraining conditions.
  • Speaker Jim Wright Library reserves the right to dispose of unwanted or unacceptable gifts.
  • Gift materials are subject to the same weeding policies as the rest of the collection.
  • Receipt of archival gift material is acknowledged in writing and memorial donations are identified as such.
  • The library is not responsible for assessing the value of any donated materials for tax purposes.
  • The Office of Institutional Advancement should be notified whenever archival gifts are accepted into the collection.
