Praise Report from India, Rejoice With Us!

(Voice of the Persecuted) It is always a blessing to hear a good report, answered prayers, from our persecuted brothers and sisters. Praise God with us!

“Thank you so much for publishing our story, Christian Family in Hiding after Hindu Extremist Mob Assaults Them in India. I am so happy to tell that we are fine by the grace of God and our land is in our hands now. God bless you all for doing this good work.”

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Join our Prayer Warrior Team here and pray united with us for the Persecuted Church. Your prayers mean so much to these dear ones. In a time such as this, let us pray together as one!

God Bless you and your faithfulness to serve!

Lois Kanalos, Founder of Voice of the Persecuted

Pray for the Church through the Word of God, Philippians

(Voice of the Persecuted) You are invited to join us tonight in a prayer conference call for the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.

Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. Give thanks to God our Father as we remember each other.

  • Let us pray with joy as we pray for each other, especially through persecution.

5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

  • Because we, the Church, are partners in the Gospel, pray that we will be confident that God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

  • Pray that we will have one another in our hearts, that we may share God’s Grace, whether if we are in chains or defending and confirming the Gospel.

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

  • Pray to the glory and praise of God that we too will be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.

Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel

12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

  • Pray that we may know that the suffering and persecution of our brothers and sisters, moved to serve in advancing the Gospel, that for this reason it will clearly be seen that they are in chains for Christ.

14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

  • Pray that through our brothers and sisters’ chains, the entire body of Christ will become confident in the Lord to dare even more proclaiming the gospel without fear.

15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice. Pray that Christ will continue to be preached and that will continue to rejoice. 19 for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.

  • Let us push away selfish ambitious thoughts and those who use faith dishonestly to promote themselves. May we instead lift the Lord high. May He bless us with confidence that as we pray for one another, our prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, will turn our sufferings out for our deliverance.

20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

  • Pray this for the Body of Christ

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me…

  • Pray that for us to live is Christ and to die is gain and if we are to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for us in God’s Kingdom purposes.

… Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.  25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.

  • What should we choose? Pray that we will choose to do the will of God so that Christ Jesus will abound on the rest of the body on our account, come what may.

Life Worthy of the Gospel

27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

  • Pray this for the Body of Christ.

Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God.

  • Pray that those persecuted will not be frightened by those who oppose them, for through God the enemy will be destroyed but they will be saved.

29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

  • Pray that the church will accept to carry their cross and follow the Lord’s leading in all things. Pray that the load of their struggle will be lightened by their trust and hope in the Lord.
  • Pray the church will not fall away from sound doctrine, but believing with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God in its fullness.

Stand firm, saints!

Join us tonight and pray for the persecuted and global Church.

In Christ love,

Nadia Dybvik, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Leader

What is Persecution Watch?

Persecution Watch is a U.S. national prayer conference call ministry that prays specifically for the global Persecuted Church. For over a decade, Blaine Scogin led this national network of believers who faithfully pray for the persecuted and the global harvest for the Kingdom of God. The group meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday night at 9pm Eastern time in the United States (please check your time zone). Blaine also served as Prayer Director for Voice of the Persecuted, and the two missions became one. Brother Blaine passed into glory on December 26, 2019. It was truly a blessing for all of us to serve alongside this dear man of God and he will be greatly missed. The prayer mission of Persecution Watch remains an important part of our mission. Voice of the Persecuted is committed to continue the prayer conference call for the persecuted along with the dedicated Persecution Watch prayer warrior team.

Prior to the passing of Brother Blaine, he confirmed the passing of the torch as prayer conference call leader to Nadia Dybvik. Nadia has a burdened heart for the persecuted and is a prayer warrior standing in the gap for them. She joined the Persecution Watch prayer team in 2015 and has been part of the core ever since. Before becoming the prayer call leader, she served in the role of prayer moderator since 2016. Blaine chose Nadia for her faithfulness to pray for the persecuted and her strong commitment to the Persecution Watch mission. We are blessed not only with her gift of prayer, but her genuine love for every brother and sister in Christ that comes on the call to pray. May the Lord continue to bless Nadia and the prayer team in the mission and their personal lives.

“Pray for us” is the number one request that we hear from the persecuted. As the members of the first century Church was moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, we too must continue to serve those suffering persecution by lifting them up to the Lord through prayer.

On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters are invited to the conference call and share the trials they are facing. The team serves to encourage them by washing their feet in Spirit led prayer. Time is often reserved for those on the call to ask questions. We believe this helps to gain a better understanding of the situation that persecuted Christians endure in their specific nations. Q&A also helps us to focus our prayers based on their current needs.

Persecution Watch also hosts callers who want to pray united from other nations. If your heart is perplexed by the sufferings of our persecuted brothers and sisters, you no longer need to pray alone.

We welcome all who desire to pray for the persecuted church and consider it a joy to pray together with you. If you are new to the call and cannot find your voice, listen in, and pray silently or mute. We are grateful and thank the Lord for bringing us all together to pray in agreement for our persecuted family in Christ. We can all be prayer warriors on this call!

God bless and protect you in your faithfulness to serve.

Remembering Blaine Scogin: His love for God, the Persecuted, and Prayer

Blaine Scogin, Founder of the Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call

(Voice of the Persecuted) You are invited to join us tonight in a prayer conference call for the persecuted church hosted by Persecution Watch.

Yesterday, Lois Kanalos, Founder of Voice of the Persecuted, reminded me that it was Brother Blaine Scogin’s birthday and shared the article written in 2013 about Brother Blaine and the Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call. For those who may not know, Blaine is the Founder of Persecution Watch and served as Prayer Director of Voice of the Persecuted. Our mighty prayer warrior went to his eternal home with the Lord in late December 2019.

Praying for the persecuted church via phone conference

In an effort to increase awareness and to end the plight of the persecuted church, Blaine Scogin of Persecution Watch is using conference calls as a means of praying for tortured and imprisoned believers.

Few are aware there is a lack of religious freedom for 73% of the world’s population, with 200 million Christians living in restricted countries.

Scogin would like to change that. Two years ago, when he did a “Google” search for a conference call prayer group for the persecuted church, he found nothing. Then the Lord impressed on his heart, What are you going to do about it?

Since he came to Christ, Scogin has always been an intercessor concerned for the persecuted church. He read “God’s Smuggler” by Open Doors founder Brother Andrew, then “Tortured for Christ” by Voice of the Martyrs founder Richard Wurmbrand shortly after receiving Christ, and was hooked.

His prayer conference call ministry was launched in August of 2010, but he says, “we are not the only people praying, just the only conference prayer line that I know of.”  Scogin would like to see other prayer conference call ministries get started since the need is so great.

Scogin’s ministry has conference calls every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night. He lets the Holy Spirit guide their prayers to the countries where Christians are facing the greatest needs.

Recently they have focused on North Korea, but often pray heavily for countries in the Middle East. They have prayed for Israel’s Messianic and Palestinian churches, and for believers in Indonesia, Myanmar, Eritrea, Somalia, China, India, Viet Nam, Pakistan, Cuba and northern Mexico to name a few.

Persecution Watch has also been instrumental in aiding the International Day of Prayer, which takes place this year on November 10.

Scogin notes that North Korea is number one on all persecution watches at this time. He says some North Korean Christians almost welcome prison since they feel the freest to share the gospel in the prison camps.  Moreover, if they are killed, they will be absent from the body and present with the Lord. They say it is an honor to suffer for the Lord and have great joy amidst their suffering.

They often ask that prayers not be for them to find freedom and escape to South Korea, but that they have the strength and ability to endure and promote the gospel in North Korea where it is needed most, no matter what the cost.

In a recent prayer call, one prayer warrior testified of a close friend who had been imprisoned in North Korea for being a Christian, who said that she heard the prayers of those across the world while in prison, which gave her encouragement to go on.

Scogin, who prefers to be called “Brother,” says that “when you hear the stories and testimonies of these persecuted saints, tortured, imprisoned and dying for Christ, it always exposes the shallowness of our own faith.”

Blaine says we will not know how effective most of the prayers have been until we get to heaven, due to the nature of the issue since there is little communication with these believers. However, he says he knows that when he and the praying saints get to heaven, they will meet people who will say “I heard your prayers” or “You helped me to endure while I was in prison” which will be the best satisfaction anyone could ask for. Thank You For Joining The IDOP2023 Special Event!

(Voice of the Persecuted) Dear Prayer Warriors, we want to thank all of you for being a part of the 12-hour IDOP special event prayer conference call on Sunday, November the 12th. We were blessed that so many of you came on the call. What a powerful and victorious day it was!

“Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” Hebrews 13:3

“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints” Ephesians 6:18

God has given such a privilege to serve together in unity by the Holy Spirit for His Kingdom come.

Our dear Brother Blane who began the Persecution Watch prayer mission for the persecuted, would often remind us, ‘The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.’

Jesus encouraged and comforted us for times such as this.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. John 16:20

I congratulate with joy the faithful moderators who did a wonderful job as monitors, for your love and obedience. For some of you it was the first time to moderate on the IDOP special event and you did an amazing job. I am so proud of you in the Lord as you allowed God to lead you with confidence and assurance.  Thank you, faithful servants, for your dedication and love for the Persecuted Church.

For His Glory!

Nadia Dybvik, Persecution Watch Prayer Call Leader

From our Prayer Call Moderators

Sunday was a glorious hour to pray for the nation that may be hardest for Christians to live.  After years of hearing believers’ reports of conditions and following the news on the nation and on the refugees to somehow managed to leave, our prayer group was able to lift up high all the concerns I have carried for the people of the Hermit Kingdom.

Michael Lard, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Moderator for North Korea

I just love you all, dear saints of God. I was overwhelmed with the stories of what God is doing and how you all are working with Him. I love you all so much.

Blessings on you,

Pastor Eulese, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Moderator for Eritrea

This was my first year moderating on the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted. It was a blessing to be on the call. Even though we pray weekly for the persecuted, I was intrigued by the information which our brothers and sisters in Christ came on to share regarding the state of Christians persecuted in various nations and their own stories. This information has helped to cement within my mind the fact that we can never stop praying for the persecuted church as we never know when our time might come.

Shonla-Jay Payne, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Moderator for Libya

We’ve prayed for the Middle Eastern nations for several years.  Tonight was no different. When I signed up to pray during the 7-8 p.m. hour, 4 or 5 nations remained to be prayed for, so I chose Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. At the time, I didn’t realize that the three nations were # 7, 8, and 9 on the Open Doors World Watch List. Between the Watch List urgency and the constant recent news reports, I was humbled and grateful to intercede with other prayer warriors for this region of the world. Christ Jesus mandates and expects His disciples to pray for and stand with our persecuted brothers and sisters. (Matt. 25:31-46). God gave us the opportunity to join other Christians around the world in simultaneous prayer, praise and worship to complete this particular mission. What a privilege it was to assist Christ and to remind Him of His Word and promises for the nations.

The Sheep and the Goats

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we…? “40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Merlaine, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Moderator

It was inspiring to hear many people of different cultures pray in unity. We had many different perspectives, but all in God’s plan. His Kingdom come; His will be done here on earth. We know for sure our prayers are heard and are encouraged to continue and persevere in prayer. May Yah bless each one of you, or rather, us. I chose to pray for the United States because of the accelerating immorality, compromise in the church and even the beginnings of persecution, starting to call evil good and good evil.

Valerie Creekmore, Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call Moderator

Dear Persecution Watch Prayer Team, it was such a blessing to be part of the call and join with you in prayer on IDOP.  I was so inspired by each of you!  What a privilege and honor to pray together!  Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer which is accomplishing so much for the kingdom!

As we prayed with Pastor Hanna and Suhad, it was a sweet time of God coming so near… and lifting up all the concerns and burdens to Him, and we know He is working as we pray together.  He calls us to seek His face and stand with each other…I was so humbled by your kindness and your prayers for our ministry and our team…blessings and thanks to you all for your faithfulness in prayer and heart for the Lord!  Much love to you all!

Kim Koehnen, Living Stones International (special guest)

I want to personally thank each one of you that joined the Persecution Watch International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP 2023) Prayer Conference Call. What a blessing to be able to unite with you as ONE in the Body of Christ to care for our suffering brothers and sisters in prayer.

We were blessed to hear testimonies from those on the frontlines in the Middle East, and Africa. To hear updates on the current situation, the sufferings, their concerns, and how God is moving mightily in their lands. We were honored to pray for their requests while they inspired us to trust and wait on the Lord in all things. As we washed their feet in prayer, we hope they were refreshed, encouraged, and will take back to the brethren that they are never forgotten. Special guests included, Mariam Ibraheem for Sudan, Pastor Hanna and Suhad for Gaza, Dr Pat, Living Stone international. May the Lord continue to bless and guide their efforts in furthering God’s purposes for His Kingdom.

We are very grateful for our Persecution Watch Prayer Call Moderators who were honored to lead prayer throughout the day covering multiple nations for this special event. We couldn’t do this without these faithful prayer warriors!

To all who sacrificed their time to pray with us on the call, with your church, prayer group or alone, THANK YOU! The persecuted are so encouraged and grateful to know we are remembering them. They are blessed with the knowledge that these calls are taking place. Continue to pray for them daily.

For those who were unable to come on the call and would like to unite in prayer, join us on our three weekly calls to specifically pray for the persecuted Church and the global harvest on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays, at 9pm EST (USA time zone). Tonight on Persecution Watch: Praying for Believers in Mauritania

Photo: Andromachos Dimitrokallis

9/17/2020 (Voice of the Persecuted) MAURITANIA – Population: 4.6 million 10,000

For Christians in Mauritania, public worship carries a constant threat. Even churches that are largely tolerated have to be careful so they aren’t accused of proselytizing Muslims, and for Christians who converted from Islam, public worship is often impossible. In Mauritania’s tribal culture, leaving Islam is not only religious betrayal, but also betrayal of the tribe and family. Believers from Muslim backgrounds will often keep their faith secret. Because the extended family is often necessary for survival, it is a huge risk for a Mauritanian to become a Christian. If their faith is discovered, they may lose not only their status in their community but also their citizenship.

Mauritania’s already strict Islamic laws have become worse. According to VOM, Mauritania passed a law in 1997 that would punish any blasphemy of Islam with the death penalty. Everyone is going to be punished. Even if you do repent, you are still going to be punished. And in the case of blasphemous remarks or sacrilegious acts, according to the law, the death penalty is now mandatory   This adds to the already high level of persecution suffered by the small Christian population in Mauritania.

Mauritania announced that showing repentance will no longer be a reason to repeal a death sentence handed out for blasphemy and apostasy.

Christian migrants from sub-Saharan Africa or aid workers who make any expression of faith risk being prosecuted for attempted proselytization. Baptisms must often be carried out in secret. Mauritania may be an increasingly dangerous place for Christians, as there is fear radical Islam may be on the rise.

Baptisms can only be carried out in secret and many converts from Islam are reluctant to be baptized, fearing discovery and charges of apostasy being brought against them.

  • Pray to the Lord that He would touch the heart of President Ghazouani and his regime answers calls to protect Christians and respect for all human rights.

  • Pray to the Lord to stop the insurgency of radical Islamists and that they would come to know the Savior they persecute.

  • Pray to the Lord that He will protect His saints from arbitrary arrests and detention, torture and other ill-treatment.

  • Pray to the Lord that authorities will not deny or ban of peaceful gathering of Christians.

  • Pray for protection and security for secret baptisms are only carried out in secret and encourage many converts from Islam are reluctant to be baptized, fearing discovery and charges of apostasy.

  • Pray for believers to have His superior protection and guidance to share the gospel despite the possible deadly consequences.

  • Pray for believers that have converted from Islam and now experience fierce pressure to return to Islam. Pray for protection and endurance.

  • Please pray for safety and courage for Christians, particularly, church leaders, who face harsh religious persecution every day.

  • Pray for protection of NGO’s who covert support to believers

  • Pray that the strong Christian messages on the internet that will encourage believers and

let Muslims see and understand the Good News.

  • Pray to the Lord as head of the church that He will grow and expand His church.   That the forces of darkness will be bound, and their efforts will be futile to prevent the church from expanding greatly.

Again, we want to lift up persecuted witnesses for the Lord and pray for

• Leah Sharibu and Alice, prisoners of Boko Haram, pray that they will be set free.

• Pray pastor Wang Yi to be released from Prison

• Pray for the release for Anita, a Christian convert recently sentenced to 6 years in prison for sharing the Gospel in Iran.

You are invited to join us on Thursday, Sept. the 17th in a prayer call for the persecuted church.

Persecution Watch is a U.S. national prayer conference call ministry that prays specifically for the global Persecuted Church. For over a decade, Blaine Scogin led this national network of believers who faithfully pray for the persecuted and the global harvest for the Kingdom of God.

The group meets via a free call-in service every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 9pm Eastern (please check your time zone). Blaine also served as Prayer Director for Voice of the Persecuted and our missions became one. The prayer mission of Persecution Watch is an important part of our own.

With the passing of Blaine into glory on December 26, 2019, Voice of the Persecuted is committed to continue the prayer conference call for the persecuted along with our dedicated prayer warrior team.

On occasion, persecuted brothers and sisters have been invited on the call to share the trials they’re facing.

If you’re new to the call and can’t find your voice, listen in and pray silently or on mute. We are grateful and thank the Lord for bringing us all together to pray in agreement for our persecuted family in Christ. We can all be prayer warriors on this call!

NOTE: Persecution Watch has a new email address for the prayer team and those who would like to receive urgent prayer requests, weekly call prayer points and notification of special prayer events and special guest speakers.

Please fill out the form below to be included in our new distribution list to receive this important information. We are grateful for your prayers and to the Lord for guiding us as we continue the Persecution Watch prayer call mission.

Note to Voice of the Persecuted (VOP) readers: The Persecution Watch prayer team is also the prayer team of Voice of the Persecuted. SIGN UP today.

Special Guest on the Persecution Watch Prayer Call tonight

7/21/2020 (Voice of the Persecuted) Dear Prayer Warriors, it is our mission to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters and for the global harvest. We are excited to welcome Cathy Cutrell as our special guest on tonight’s prayer conference call. Cathy has a heart for our persecuted brothers and sisters and through the years, she has often joined and prayed with us on the Persecution Watch call. She truly loves our brothers and sisters and is a beautiful Spirit-filled Prayer Partner.

Cathy also has a deep love for the lost and a desire for the Kingdom Harvest. She is serving the Lord with International Orality network (ION). The ION mission is to Influence the body of Christ to encourage all oral communicators to follow Jesus.

Psalm 119:130

The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Who are Oral communicators?

Orality is an ancient phenomenon that continues to the present. Before writing was developed, cultures passed along their cultural traditions, including their history, identity, and religion, through their stories, proverbs, poems, songs, riddles, etc. These are all oral art forms; that is, they are spoken, sung or chanted. They were (and still are) often woven into ceremonies, dramas and rites of passage. Purely oral societies pass along everything that matters from one generation to another without putting anything into writing. They rely on the spoken word.

Oral communicators/learners are people from all over the globe, from all walks of life and all levels of education who communicate primarily or exclusively through oral, not textual means. Their lives are therefore more likely to be transformed through stories, songs, drama, proverbs, and media. While some oral communicators learn this way out of necessity because they cannot read or write with understanding, others simply prefer non-print forms of communication.

Oral learners are often in place that experience extreme persecution. International Orality network has often partnered with Persecution Watch and Voice of the Persecuted during special 12-24 hour prayer events.

The International Orality Network is an affiliation of agencies and organizations working together with the common goal of making God’s Word available to oral communicators in culturally appropriate ways that enable church planting movements everywhere.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Psalm 18:28

For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.

1 John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

There are 5.7 billion oral communicators in our world including:

2.7 billion unreached people in approximately 3,500 unengaged, unreached people groups

Approximately 2 billion people without the Old Testament

>1,800 unengaged, unreached people groups consisting of 350 million people without a single verse of Scripture in their heart language

1.35 billion oral communicators who may be literate, but prefer to learn through oral means

ION encourages and supports the development of oral strategies to meet this need.

ION Prayer links with many others who have a heart to pray for those who still wait to hear the name of Jesus.

To learn more about ION here

Dear Saints, will you come and pray with us on the call tonight? Join us as we hear from dear our sister, Cathy and pray for oral learners and laborers to communicate the Word of God to them.

It is our mission until the Lord releases us to continue to lift up persecuted witnesses for the Lord. We continue to pray for Leah Sharibu and Alice, that they will be set free from Boko Haram captivity. Also for Pastor Wang Yi to be released from prison in China and for the release for Anita, a Christian convert recently sentenced to 6 years in prison for sharing the Gospel in Iran.

For His Glory,

Nadia and Merlaine

Tonight on Persecution Watch Prayer Call – Iraqi Christians

6/25/20 (Voice of the Persecuted) IRAQPopulation: 40.4 million, Christians 200,000 thousand

Many Iraqi Christians are still recovering from the brutal reign of ISIS, and for some believers, that threat has not fully diminished. Although ISIS has lost territory in Iraq, their ideology remains and has influenced society. Many of the militants have simply blended back into the general population. Another important driver of persecution are Shia militias who helped drive out ISIS and have gained authority and territory in the power vacuum left after ISIS was defeated.

Additionally, Christians are dealing with a drastic reduction in their population since ISIS began their attacks, along with trauma for those believers who have stayed in their country. Iraq remains very tribal, which can also mean significant pressure for believers who come from Muslim tribes—conversion to Christianity is seen as a rejection of heritage and family. Christians from Muslim backgrounds often keep their faith a secret since they may be attacked by family members or others in the community if their new faith is discovered.

In central and southern Iraq, Christians often do not publicly display Christian symbols, such as a cross, as this can lead to harassment or discrimination at checkpoints, universities, government buildings and in workplaces. Even Christians in the Iraqi Kurdish Region (IKR) have reportedly removed the cross from their cars to avoid unwanted attention. Christians with a Muslim background experience most pressure from extended family and often keep their faith a secret to avoid threats from family members, clan leaders and the society around them. Converts to Christianity from Islam risk losing their inheritance rights and the right or means to marry. Openly leaving Islam leads to difficult situations throughout the country.

The 2019 edition of “Persecuted and Forgotten?”, a biennial study of the persecution of Christians around the world, warns that Christianity is disappearing from towns and cities in the faith’s ancient homeland. Despite the defeat of ISIS, the impact of genocide has led to the hemorrhaging of great numbers of Christians from the region, says the report.

There were 1.5 million Christians in Iraq before 2003, but by mid-2019 that figure had fallen to well below 150,000; by some estimates the number of Christians there may have fallen as low as 120,000—a decline of more than 90 percent within a single generation.

The report, which covers the period 2017-2019, notes that the international community has shown unprecedented concern about the persecution of the region’s Christians. But the report charges that “governments in the West and the UN failed to offer Christians in countries such as Iraq and Syria the emergency help they needed as genocide got underway.”

06/22/2020 Over the weekend, the Turkish Air Force continued bombing NW Iraq, reportedly displacing many and killing up to five civilians. Turkey claims that some members of the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) are based in this area and that they were the target. However, several of the impacted villages are also home to Christian communities. Hundreds of Christian families who fled Mosul and the Nineveh Plains during the 2014 ISIS attacks now live in Zakho, one of the areas targeted by Turkey’s raids. Many of these Christians have been displaced once again.

Some of the dangers of the Iraqi Christian persecution and its people face:

o   Islamization – Arabization – Kurdification

o   Denominationalism and fragmentation

o   Cultural and language loss through assimilation outside their homeland

Prayer Points
  • Pray for Christian political leaders and ask God to give them wisdom over their daily decisions. Pray they will listen to God’s voice and represent well the people they serve.

  • Pray for NGOs to conduct training programs to led by local partner organization in the Nineveh Plains in the rest of Iraq. Pray for the future of these Christians, that the Lord will give them courage and strength to stand up to trials.

  • Please continue to pray for the staff of the NGOs local partners in Iraq. They often travel across the country on dangerous roads. Ask the Lord to protect them from all dangers when they go out to spread the gospel among those hungering for Jesus.

  • Pray for hope for the displaced Christian families who return to areas like Mosul. Very few Christians have returned to their cities and villages because the security situation remains unstable.

  • Pray to the Lord to raise up pastors/missionaries as well as tent makers to encourage and minister to the discouraged Christians.

  • Pray for the Lord’s comfort and grace to all who have lost loved ones in the attacks and that He would be close to the broken-hearted.

  • Pray that the Lord will protect and strengthen the Christian background believers and to remain joyful under difficult circumstances.

  • Pray that the Lord will open doors to evangelism and give believers courage and boldness to reach out to the lost.

  • Pray that the Lord will appear to radical Muslims in their dreams and connect them with believers.

  • Pray to the Lord that Christians love God so much that they can forgive and love their neighbors.

  • Pray to the Lord that He will protect and raise up His church.

Again, we want to lift up persecuted witnesses for the Lord and pray for Leah Sharibu and Alice, pray that they will be set free. And also lift up pastor Wang Yi to be released from Prison and ask for the release for Anita, a Christian convert recently sentenced to 6 years in prison for sharing the Gospel in Iran

You are invited to join us on Thursday, June 25 in a prayer call for the persecuted church.

Persecution Watch Prayer Conference Call for the Persecuted 5/26/20

(Voice of the Persecuted) Dear Prayer Warriors, as I thank the Lord I also like to thank all of you!!!

“5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

For 30 nights, the Father brought us together in unity in the Spirit and in love to pray during Ramadan that as Muslims would pray they would find the Father, the true living God! We were blessed as we were called, on our perseverance and obedience to the Lord. We trusted Him and we submitted all to Him! What a privilege we have been given by God, and I rejoice with all of you!!!

Good job faithful Servants!!!!

Worthy are You our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power. Amen!!!

So now we are continuing on our call to pray for the sufferings and persecution of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ and for the Harvest.

I found an old video that was sent to me in 2015 by my dear Brother Blaine, It’s a 10 minute testimony of 9 precious Saints who stood for Jesus Christ against the evil Isis.

Like Blaine, I also pray that you will be touched by this video as I was. These are the people we pray for, their persecutions is the reason we pray on Persecution Watch!

Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

I welcome all of you who are called by His Holy Spirit to join me tonight as He leads you in prayer for the persecuted.

In Christ Love
