Are you searching for the official Uno rules? You've come to the right place!
Whether you've never played before or just want to refresh the rules, this quick guide shows you everything you need to start playing in no time!
What you need to play Uno:
All players draw one card. The one with the highest card becomes the dealer (the one who deals the cards). Cards with symbols count as zero. The dealer shuffles and deals 7 cards to each player.
Place the remaining cards face down in the middle of the table. This becomes your DRAW pile from which you'll draw cards during the game.
The dealer draws the first card, flipping it symbol-side up next to the DRAW pile. This starts a new pile where you'll play your cards, known as the DISCARD pile.
The game begins with the player to the dealer's left. You must play a card matching the color, number, or symbol of the first card in the DISCARD pile. The gameplay then continues to the next player.
For the first card being a special card (also known as an action card), refer to step 6 for more information.
If you cannot play a card, draw one from the DRAW pile. If it's playable, you can use it immediately if you want.
If you can't play it, keep it and the turn passes to the next player.
Besides the regular number cards (0–9), Uno contains five types of special cards:
Remember to say "Uno!" when you have one card left. The game continues until someone has one card and declares, "Uno!".
If a player forgets to say "Uno!" when they have one card left and is caught, that player must draw two cards.
If no one notices and the next player plays a card or draws from the DRAW pile, the game continues without penalty.
Play your last card to win the round. Being on your last card brings you closer to winning. If it's your turn and you can play your last card, you win.
If you can't play your last card, draw a card from the DRAW pile. The player who has no cards left wins.
Tally the points on paper after each round. The first player to shed their cards earns points from the remaining cards of the opponents. Points are scored as follows:
The first player to reach 500 points wins!

If you own an older version of Uno, you might be missing the relatively new shuffle card and the custom cards. If that's the case, feel free to ignore the sections describing these cards!

112 cards as follows:
Be the first player to discard all of your cards in each round and score points for the cards your opponents are left holding. Points accumulate in rounds, and the first player to reach 500 points wins.
The person to the left of the dealer starts play. On your turn, you must match a card from your hand to the card on the top of the DISCARD pile, either by number, color or symbol.
EXAMPLE: If the card on the DISCARD pile is a red 7, you must put down a red card OR any color 7. Alternatively, you can put down a Wild card.
If you don't have a card that matches the one on the DISCARD pile, you must take a card from the DRAW pile. If the card you picked up can be played, you are free to put it down in the same turn. Otherwise, play moves on to the next person in turn.
When you play this card, the next player must draw 2 cards and miss their turn. This card may only be played on a matching color or on another Draw Two card.
When you play this card, the direction of play reverses (if play is currently to the left, then play changes to the right, and vice versa). This card may only be played on a matching color or on another Reverse card.
When you play this card, the next player is "skipped" (loses their turn). This card may only be played on a matching color or on another Skip card.
When you play this card, you get to choose the color that continues play. You may play a Wild card on your turn even if you have another playable card in your hand.
When you play this card, you get to choose the color that continues play PLUS the next player must draw 4 cards from the DRAW pile and lose their turn. You may only play this card when you do NOT have another card in your hand that matches the COLOR on the DISCARD pile.
When you play this card, collect EVERY card from EACH player's hand. Shuffle all the cards together and then deal them back to each player. This card is also a wild card, so whoever played the card chooses the color that resumes play.
Use a pencil to write any house rule you wish on a card. The only limit is your imagination (and the consent of the other players). This is a wild card so you may play it on your turn even if you have another playable card in your hand.
WINNER is the first player to reach 500 points.
If you have any specific queries, there's a good chance you'll find the answer in our Uno FAQ. Here, we've compiled responses to some of the most common questions related to the game.
Play cards matching the top card of the discard pile in color, number, or symbol. Use special cards to alter gameplay. Say "Uno" when you have one card left. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round.
There are 112 cards in a standard Uno deck:
According to the official rules, each player starts with 7 cards.
According to the official rules, a player can only play one card at a time. However, many people play with house rules where you can play two identical cards at once.
The official Uno rules clearly state that you can only play one card at a time. However, it's very common to play with house rules where it's okay to play two or more cards at once.
A common misconception is that you can't end a round with a specific card. This is not true, and you can go out on any card according to the official rules.
If you're counting points and go out on a Draw Two or Draw Four card, the next player must still draw the cards before points are tallied.
The card game "Uno" is named after the Spanish/Italian word for "one" (1) and is shouted by you when you have played your second-to-last card during the game.
You must say Uno when you play your second-to-last card. If you don't say Uno, you can be penalized and must draw 2 cards.
However, for you to be penalized, someone must point out that you didn't say Uno. This must be done before the next player plays their card or draws from the DRAW pile.
If you don't say Uno when you have played your second-to-last card and have one card in hand, you can be penalized. Another player must point out that you didn't say Uno before the next player starts playing. If no one notices, the game continues without penalty.
A standard Uno deck contains 112 cards and can be divided into different categories:
Number cards: Come in numbers 0-9 in four different colors.
Action cards: Draw Two, Reverse and Skip are available in all four colors.
Wild cards: Wild and Wild Draw Four are black and can be played at any time.
If you draw a card from the draw pile and can play it on the discard pile, you may do so immediately. However, you don't have to play the card if you don't want to, even if you can.
Many Uno players don't know that the Wild Draw Four card can only be played if you don't have a card in your hand that matches the color of the top card on the discard pile.
However, we know that most players are not aware of this rule and therefore don't play with it.
If you're playing Uno with just two people, there are no special rules. The game is played exactly as usual.
What becomes a bit special is that if you play a Reverse card, it's your turn again. The same applies if you play a Skip card.
According to the official Uno rules, you can never play two cards. The answer is therefore: no, you cannot go out with two cards.
However, many people play with house rules where you can play multiple cards at once. If that's the case, you should be able to go out by playing two cards.
If it's your turn and you can't play a card, you must draw a card from the DRAW pile. If the card you draw can be played on the DISCARD pile, you may do so immediately.
NOTE: You don't have to play the card you draw, even if you can, if you don't want to. If you can't play the card, you keep it in your hand and play continues to the next player.
Yes, you can go out on any special card in Uno. The next player must also fulfill what the played special card shows, for example, draw cards. This becomes especially important if the game continues or if you're counting points.
