In shape

What if…

the oval office is a parallelogram?

the pentagon a quatrefoil?

What if…

being square

equals being crescent?

What if…

you can be high as a heptagon

from being in a love trapezoid?

What if…

rhombus reasoning

replaces circular reasoning?

What if…

all of us

stay in shape?

What I remembered from today’s prompt for #OctPoWriMo was the word box, and something about being outside of it. You can find the real prompt, and all the responses to it at octpowrimo.com.

Thanks to everyone who joined my launch group, for my oncoming book. If you want to help too, check out the sign-up page. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need to know me. It would help though if you like my poems, because one of the things I’m looking for is positive reviews from people who actually DO love the book 🙂

Sillyme

Today’s prompt is playful, but I feel very serious. I blame Blurb. They offer 50% discount on my book before October 17th, and for a high quality coffee table book of 30x30cm, that’s a lot. Only trouble was, I didn’t have it in the store yet… I’ve fixed that, and tell you more about it after the poem. But OctPoWriMo day 12 comes first!

For more playfulness visit the #OctPoWriMo page for day 12. I’ll head over there too when I’ve finished all the serious stuff for today. Like how I can get my book to you at this amazing discount.

The offer is valid until the start of October 17th. For a maximum of 5 people. How does it work?

  • You send me a message that you want the book.
  • I check on the Blurb account what they charge as postage for your address (and tax maybe, I haven’t figured out how that differs across countries yet).
  • I’ll message you the total amount, and how you can pay for it (PayPal, Transferwise, bank account).
  • After you’ve sent me the money, I can order the book and have it sent to your address. Expect delivery around October 31th.

Growing trains

of thought

Growing trains

at first no gains

but then – a lot!

Growing trains

of thought

This is a triolet I think? I wrote it earlier this week and for me it fits today’s prompt – or at least well enough to quickly add it on a busy Saturday!

Remember

our starting point
point of view
view from the top
top of the bill
bill of rights
rights of way
way too complicated
complicated matters
matters over minds
minds unlocked
unlocked secret
secret view
view, hidden
hidden thought
thought, remember?
remember our starting point
our first step
step into the unknown
unknown fields of pleasure
pleasure of getting to know each other
other senses, other bodies
bodies in motion
motion of the heart
heart in wonder
wonder of wealth
wealth of touch
touch our core
core revealed
revealed emotion
emotion bared
bared our love
love our first step

One of the suggested forms today at OctPoWriMo was loop poetry. I wrote a poem, noticed it was from the head, realised we were asked about the heart too. So I wrote a second one, from the heart. Combined them in a table. Only in the process of putting them together, I realised this was going to be a cleave poem too if I played my cards well… A cleave poem is a poem that’s split in the middle, where the left part forms a poem, the right part forms a poem, and together they form a third poem.

So with a surprised face, I present to you for #OctPoWriMo day 9 my loop cleave table poem – or something like that 🙂 The right column should be outlined to the right but the block editor and I are no friends yet.

October 8: Breaking Boundaries #OctPoWriMo #Writober and #NanoPrep

I love what Maria did with the forms. The Diamante turned mushroom, and the table poem has a sharpness to it that comes both from the breaks and the words. Superb!

Let Your Light Shine by Maria L. Berg 2020

This morning’s theme “Breaking Boundaries” inspired an exciting photo adventure. I looked at things I see every day with fresh perspective.

I enjoyed the question/answer rhythm of RALLENTANDA’s triolet.

Poetry prompt Today’s OctPoWriMo prompt is Breaking Boundaries

Forms Diamante or Table poem

I tried both forms .

Kindness and Cruelty

Kindness
comfortable, warm
caring, accepting, giving
door, home . . . zoo, airport
trapping, attacking, emptying
brutal, harsh
Cruelty

Mine looks more like a mushroom than a diamond. I like that.

Tooling up for breaking boundaries

I’ll need scissors to separate sullen skies

A diamante poem. How I enjoyed reading all your responses (and non-responses) to my prompt today! It was my first time providing a prompt for #OctPoWriMo. I can recommend it, it’s really exciting!

Day 8 OctPoWriMo

Prompt: Breaking boundaries

Form: Table poem

Angela, I hope this will be considered a table poem. WordPress was making a mess of it so I had to type it on Word and paste a screenshot here. Loved your art.

(The left column is a poem in itself and so is the right one. Together they form a poem too! So you get three poems today:) )

Doorfies

Regular visitors of #ThursdayDoors, the weekly doorfest created by Norm Frampton, quickly learn a new word: doorfie. It’s when you take a picture of a beautiful door but accidentlily (or not) show up in the picture yourself, through reflection.

The graffiti you see is on the prison door I wrote about last week. I’m supposed to write a poem today, for day 8 of #OctPoWriMo. I’m not sure if I’ll manage, I’m so incredibly exited that the daily prompt post today is written by me (for the first time).

I keep checking the page to see if new, wonderful poems have shown up 🙂 Another huge distraction is the fact that Blurb offered me to order our coffee table book More than meets the I at a gigantic discount: 50% off. I’m torn between letting people know they can order one through me today because it’s the best offer they ever provided. Or come across as a greedy, salesy person by telling everyone they can order it for a fabulous price and that there’s time pressure…

Anyhow, if you happen to want want let me know. I’ll order the books in about 6 hours, to make sure I won’t miss the deal. The print and paper quality of the book are absolutely fabulous, both my mum and me were stunned when we saw the Dutch edition.
