Jane Dougherty wrote a fabulous cleave poem today, for the silence prompt on octpowrimo.com. Hers made me want to try one too. It turned out to be contagious. SMSaves wrote a very good one, called Working Mind Wanders.
How to read a cleave poem?
1. Read the left hand poem as a first one.
2. Read the right hand poem as a second one.
3. Read the whole as a third one.I guess I could claim I’ve invented a new form, with the title and last line turning the poem into a diamond shape – if your fantasy is rich. I’ve been experimenting with tables before, I suspect I may have written one or more cleave poems before. I’ll search through my site and see if I can add some links or tags, so they are easier to find.
Update: no cleaves found yet, but two table poems, one diamond and one square:
i is a number (I’m not)

You did extremely well with the cleave format, Angela 🙂
Thank you so much!
It’s a good one. The two different threads part and join up again at the end, holding the complete poem together.
I love it. The shape, form and content
I had never heard of a cleave poem until I read Jane’s. You both have done so well!
I love it when I think “I can’t do this” and then I manage anyhow 🙂 Thank you for your lovely comment!
You are most welcome!
Angela, Your poem is quite brilliant.
Fabulous praise, thank you!
I think so too.,
Thank you Rall. I’m humbled by al these lovely responses. Poetry months are the best months of the year!
This is a difficult form. I like the way the emotions come together at the end. (K)

I have never tried this form. You have done it so well.
Reblogged this on Writing and Reflections and commented:
Another OctPoWriMo poem. This one blows me away!
Eloquently and visually very clever… well done
I love this Angela! I don’t feel like I have the energy to try this form today. Maybe over the next two weeks?
Really well done!
I notice that I haven’t responded to all of your lovely messages. Sorry! I sometimes get so caught up in reading and commenting during poetry writing month that I forget to take care of my own page.
It’s absolutely wonderful to read all these again, with fresh eyes, after the emotion of writing the poem (and the insecurity that comes with it, you know what I mean) has subsided.
fascinating format, like the challenge .. well done, kudos!
