Sliding Scale

Overview

Transformative Growth Counseling (TGC) is committed to ensuring that high-quality mental health care is accessible to everyone. Our Sliding Scale option provides reduced rates for clients who may be unable to afford our standard out-of-pocket fees due to financial hardship or qualifying circumstances.

This program supports:

  • Clients without insurance

  • Clients whose insurance won’t cover services

  • Clients with high deductibles or out-of-network plans

  • Individuals and families experiencing financial strain

While we cannot guarantee a reduced rate for every applicant, our administrative team reviews each request carefully to determine what level of support we can offer based on need and available capacity.

Approval for the Sliding Scale does not guarantee an immediate appointment—there may be a short wait depending on clinician availability. If you need a specific therapist or have scheduling limitations, this may also affect wait times.

Qualifications

Clients may qualify for Sliding Scale support if they or someone in their household meet one or more of the following criteria:

If you are unsure whether you qualify, you are welcome to apply—our team will review your information and determine eligibility.

Application Process

To apply for a reduced fee, clients must complete the short application form available on our website. This form asks for basic financial information and any documents that help us understand your current situation.

  • After you submit your application, our team will:
  • Review your financial information
  • Determine whether you qualify
  • Assign an appropriate rate based on need and availability
  • Update your account and notify you with next steps

Please allow time for review, especially during periods of high demand. Only one application is needed per household unless your financial situation changes.

How the Sliding Scale Works

The Sliding Scale adjusts your session rate based on your financial circumstances rather than assigning one flat number to everyone. When reviewing applications, we consider:

  • Household size and income

  • Current participation in assistance programs

  • Out-of-pocket medical or mental health expenses

  • Employment status or recent changes

  • Housing stability

Our goal is to set a reduced rate that makes therapy more accessible while still allowing us to maintain services for all clients. Reduced-fee spots are limited and may depend on clinician availability.

If we cannot offer a reduced rate immediately, we will discuss alternative options or add you to the waiting list for the next available opening.

Re-Evaluation

Sliding Scale support is intended to help you during times of financial hardship. Because circumstances can change, we may periodically request updated information to ensure the reduced rate still reflects your current needs.

You may be asked to update:

  • Income or employment changes

  • Insurance changes

  • Household size

  • New or reduced financial assistance

If your situation improves, your rate may be adjusted so that we can extend support to others. If your situation worsens, please reach out—we will reassess your eligibility to ensure you receive the most appropriate support.

Adjustments for Higher Paying

If your assigned rate is higher due to income, assistance level, or household factors, please know that every decision is made with care. We aim to balance affordability with the sustainability of the program. If your financial situation changes, you may request a re-evaluation at any time.

Policy Purpose

The Sliding Scale reflects our commitment to accessible, equitable mental health care. By adjusting rates based on need, we help ensure that clients experiencing financial hardship can continue receiving support without interruption.

Review & Notifications

Once your application is submitted, our team will notify you of your eligibility and assigned rate. If additional documentation is needed, we will contact you directly. Please check your email regularly so the review process is not delayed.

Client Responsibility

Clients approved for the Sliding Scale must agree to provide accurate, up-to-date information. If documentation is missing or financial information is unclear, this may delay approval or impact rate assignment.

Open communication is essential. If your circumstances change—positively or negatively—please notify our administrative team. This helps ensure fairness and allows us to continue supporting those with the greatest need.
