They'd all dodged something big, Thor was certain of that. None of them hard been overly prepared when SHIELD called the Avengers in to deal with a threat in Manhattan. They'd all known that something else could be coming, that the invasion would only just be the beginning, but he thought that perhaps they had all expected a little more time. It was part of their duty, though. It was only they who were tasked with defending the earth and it's denizens. At least-- that was what Thor had thought.

Thor had never heard of the X-Men until that day. It was his first experience with them, and no one had thought to tell him. Perhaps it had simply not come up. But when Thor laid eyes on these beings with their extraordinary abilities, he was truly amazed. He had not known that there were those in Midgard with talents such as these. And even more, there was a woman who could control the skies -- much like he. She had descended from above and displayed such devastating skill that it took Thor's breath away. She was magnificent. To say that Thor was eager to meet her was an understatement.

He found his opportunity after the battle. SHIELD wished to debrief them all on what had transpired and they invited the X-Men aboard the helicarrier as well. Thor almost felt apprehensive, and it had nothing to do with what he suspected Fury had to say. Overall, the mission had gone well, thanks to the X-Men. There would be other concerns and measures to take, of course, but they had reason to be optimistic. And it would seem that they had some new allies.

Thor always knew he might come to this. He loved Jane, he truly did. He didn't think he had ever felt anything like the way she made him feel. But Thor knew something this lovely couldn't last. It wasn't in the stars for the two of them.

Jane didn't want what Thor had to offer. Not in the long term. She didn't want to be an Asgardian princess. Thor was coming to the conclusion that if they were going to continue down this path, they were going to get hurt, and the longer they waited the worse it was going to be. If Thor was really concerned about Jane's well being, if he really loved her, he was starting to think that maybe ending this would be the best idea. It was a sobering thought.

He came to find Sif. He needed to talk to her. If anyone was going to be able to help Thor unfold his thoughts, it was going to be Sif. And perhaps she would be biased, but he also had faith that she would help him determine what would be best. He trusted her completely, without question. He knocked on the door, hoping that perhaps Darcy would be out. If he was lucky, it would just be Sif.
