Summer High School Conservatory Theatre Aspen Something Rotten!

About Something Rotten!

Something Rotten! is a show where actors can use modern satire and exuberance to tell the (false) history of competitive theatre rivals in Shakespearean times. With specialized training in acting, vocal technique, and dance, led by industry professionals visiting Aspen to bring their vision and experience to the conservatory company, this program is designed for actors to bond as a summer company, take the next step in their journey as performers, and gain professionally led stage experience.

Travel back to the Renaissance for 2 hours of musical comedy gold in Something Rotten! Adapted from the Broadway hit that Time Out New York hailed as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years,” Something Rotten! celebrates one undeniable truth: “nothing’s as amazing as a musical!”

In the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local psychic foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self.

Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.

Theatre Aspen’s Summer Youth Musical provides an opportunity for actors entering Grades 4-7 to spend five weeks building skills, community, and confidence. This program culminates in a weekend of performances on the Hurst stage, the same stage used by Theatre Aspen’s Broadway company. Actors will be given specialized training from our teaching staff to build necessary skills for any theatre performer. These include group dance lessons, acting and vocal coaching as well as an audition workshop to ensure every actor can show us their best when we cast the show.

To participate in Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., all you have to do is register. Actors will audition and be cast into specific roles on the first day of the camp.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music by Alan Menken.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking. This story shows the importance of family connections, individual freedom, and not taking your voice for granted.
