Moonlight Sonata Mvt. 1 - Beethoven
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Sonata No. 14, Quasi una fantasia; "Moonlight" Op. 27 No. 2 Mvt. 1 by Beethoven
Heuvadoches requested this earlier to day as a celestially inspired piano piece to go with Clair de Lune, so I figured I'd go ahead and record it as it's already in my repertoire. It's not perfect, but it's close enough. Movements 2 and 3 are forthcoming as soon as I'm happy with them (might be a bit on Mvt. 3, it's rather difficult). Anybody else got an idea for "celestially inspired" classical piano music? It probably won't be soon because of college, but I'll learn something and record it if you've got a request.

Though his "Planets Suite" are full orchestrations and that doesn't distill into the piano very well.
First movement seems somewhat ... fast and the triplets could use some consistency, if you wanted a technically perfect recording, but I'm liking what you've done with it. You've also done what most do not ... and that's pay attention to the dynamics as written. Unfortunately, I've run across far too many recordings that are mono-volume.
... oops! 2:15, 2:25, 2:55 have jazz solos! But considering the overall difficulty of even just the opening piece of this sonata ... You've done more than I could have.
Also, it amazes me that these men and women (Beethoven, Mozart, et al.) could sit down and bang out this beauty in an afternoon like it was nothing.
P.S. Thank you!!! You've done very well!
I guess that means I'll have to record Brahms' Lullaby on my Saxophone and post it up here.
I know my version of this piece isn't period accurate, but I find it rather boring played completely as written. Also, this sonata is "Quasi una fantasia" (like a fatasy), which is a much freer genre due to its improvisational background. All that being said, I just played it like I like to, and convention can go do unspeakable things to itself (that sentiment irritated my piano professor to no end. I've got a reason for my opinion on that matter, but it's far too involved to include in a comment box).
A lot of the mistakes are due to the fact that I just picked up this piece after a number of years today. I played this for my second ever piano recital, which must have been 8 years ago, and haven't performed it in 4 years. Given a few days' refresher, I'd do better. All things considered, though, I'm fairly satisfied with how I played it. The other two movements are fresher, but significantly harder, so they may take a bit to prepare.
As for banging stuff like this out in an afternoon, Mozart could have done it, but Beethoven had to put forth a little more effort. Remember, he only composed 36 piano sonatas in his lifetime (as opposed to a hundred or so by Mozart), and lived much longer. I LOVE his music, though, crazy bastard that he was.
I'm glad you enjoyed the recording. I wish I could have done better on short notice, but whatever. I'll gladly make an attempt at whatever other requests you may have in the future.
Lovely work from you, thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition of this piece. I'll see how quickly I can get the other two movements up.
I definitely enjoyed myself, and will be curious to hear everything else you have planned to bring to our attention!
Goodnight Hammerfist... I'll just lay down here and enjoy your beautiful song.
Thanks for sharing! I love these piano songs you keep doing! Can't wait to hear more from you. ^o^
Glad you enjoyed it. I'll keep recording away, soon as I'm happy with them anyway.
