Sneaky the Library Cat Interviews Elvis the Dog from Murder Plays Second Fiddle by Heather Weidner

Hey, Doggie. What is your name and your author’s name?

Hi, I’m Elvis. I’m a Chihuahua, and I’m in Heather Weidner’s Pearly Girls Mysteries series.

Cool! I like the sound of that. Tail wags to you both.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I’m in the cozy mystery series: Murder Strikes a Chord and Murder Plays Second Fiddle. Murder Whets Its Whistle comes out next year.

Condogulations!

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Yes, it’s a series. I live with my pal, Cassidy Jamison. She inherited the property from her grandmother. She’s an event planner. They have concerts, weddings, and events on the property that has a serenity garden, amphitheater, and a glammed up barn.

I love that. Great setting.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

I am based on Heather’s sister’s chihuahua Bingo.

This is the model for Elvis. His name is Bingo, and he lives in Northern Virginia.

Adorable! Thanks for sharing.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

The early summer blooms mixed with the woodsy smells reminded Cassidy of why she loved the mountains. There was no prettier view, and each season brought new surprises. A June bug caught Elvis’s attention, and he bounded off after the slow-moving insect.

Suddenly, loud, muffled voices caught their attention. They both paused and then headed in the direction of the noise.

Cassidy stepped cautiously along the trail, not sure of what she’d find at the buses.

Murder Strikes A Chord

Pawsome!

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I am in charge of security at the facility, and I get to go to work with Cassidy every day. I love meeting all our new guests and helping her solve mysteries.

Good job!

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I don’t talk, but I do help sniff out clues.

I’m sure that’s very helpful.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

I love being a working dog. I help keep things on the property secure. I protect Cassidy and the Pearly Girls, and I am an ambassador for the business. I get to be in TikToks and on the other socials. I love having a job and helping Cassidy.

I’m sure other character dogs would enjoy that, too.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

Murder Whets Its Whistle comes out in 2027. Heather also writes the Jules Keene Glamping Mysteries and the Mermaid Bay Christmas Shoppe Mysteries.

Wow, Meow! She sure is busy. My author also has three series. I’m in the Cobble Cove mysteries. She released Rock a Bye Bye Baby, our 6th book not too long ago.

The Pearly Girls return to solve a high school reunion murder in this sequel to Murder Strikes a Chord.

Event planner Cassidy Jamison and her not-so-helpful sexagenarian staff of Roxie, Kate, Aileen, and Ruthanne are up to their elbows with a high school reunion committee’s constantly changing requirements for an event that must be the most elaborate and memorable at all costs.

When well-known reporter, Darcy Branch, and former cheerleader, Brittany Mahoney, are found dead on her property, Cassidy and the gang have to find the killer before the party’s over. And the more Cassidy and her Chihuahua mix, Elvis, dig for clues, the more deadly secrets they uncover—including one that changes everything she knows about her family’s history.

The Pearly Girls need to solve the case before the Class of 2009 goes down in Ivy Springs history as the deadliest reunion.

Sneaky the Library Cat Interviews Jasper the dog from Riddles, Rogues and Murder by Christa Nardi

Hello, Mr. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name? I

I’m Jasper, a Maltese with a nose for danger, created by Christa Nardi

Tails wags to you.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

They’re all cozy mysteries, sometimes edgy – they are murder mysteries after all. I’m in all 12 of the Stacie Maroni Mysteries (Prestige, Privilege & Murder; Foundations, Funny Business & Murder; Deception, Denial, & Murder; Connections, Conflict & Murder; Holidays, Hijinks & Murder; Temptations, Trouble & Murder; Keepsakes, Karma & Murder; Marriage, Malice & Murder; Bitterness, Betrayal & Murder; Jealousy, Jitterbug & Murder; Ventures, Vengeance & Murder; and the newest, Riddles, Rogues & Murder).

I also made a cameo appearance in one Sheridan Hendley Mystery, A Weekend Getaway, Another Murder.

Pawsome.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Like I said, I’m in all the Stacie Maroni Mysteries. Originally, it was Stacie, Ted, and me. Then someone killed Ted just as Stacie filed for divorce. I was the only witness. Good thing I sense danger and could warn Stacie. She never planned to be a sleuth. She works HR at a big insurance company, serves as a crisis counselor, and volunteers at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Still when she found herself in danger, she tried to figure out who killed Ted and then came after her. Then, part of his will included a foundation to support services for victims and named her as co-chair. That got kind of nasty. It’s a good thing she’s friends with many of the local PD, though they call her a magnet for murder. Anyway, like I mentioned, I can alert her to danger and get very excited when some of her friends come over. They spoil me good. In the new book, the killer or someone threatens to hurt me, but Stacie and Detective O’Hare make sure I’m safe.

Sounds great.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

I think I’m based on a white Maltese about my size, Sparky. Only aside from being a wonderful dog and all, he didn’t have my superpower of sensing danger. He was good company and provided comfort and all, loving Stacie (er, Christa). Unfortunately, he took a trip over the rainbow bridge.

Awww. The Siamese cat, Oliver, who I was based on is also on Rainbow Bridge.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

This scene is from Foundations, Funny Business & Murder. Stacie, me, Kevin, and Shaq – his big lab were enjoying coffee outside Starbucks. I knew there was trouble brewing, but Shaq? He just stayed under the table. I kept Stacie safe. Well, Kevin helped a little:

Jasper growled softly and then more emphatically. I glanced around and saw a man approach the Starbucks from the side street. The closer he got, the noisier Jasper got and nothing I did calmed him. Kevin moved quickly between the man and me.

He hissed, “Inside now.”

I tried to grab Jasper and that was a no go. Kevin took a few steps toward the man as the man reached into his pocket. The man wasn’t dumb, but he sure wasn’t smart. Realizing that Kevin was onto him and bigger, he turned and tried to run. Kevin took off after him and I called the police. Man gone, Jasper calmed down, panting. Shaq tilted his head. The police cruiser arrived just as I spotted Kevin in the distance, returning with the man in tow, his arm pulled behind him. Rick shook his head as he and Flatt approached the table.

“Hey, Jasper. Did you get a new dog?”

“No, that’s Shaq…” That’s as far as I got before Jasper went crazy again.

Both Rick and Flatt stopped smiling. I shrugged and pointed to Kevin and the man.

“The man in the sweats was coming at us and Jasper didn’t like it. Kevin stepped in and the man took off.”

Jasper continued to growl and began to howl. “Can you please remove that man from Jasper’s view?”

Love it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

LOL. Everyone loves me – except the bad guys – and I get to play Frisbee, go for walks, and sometimes lead Stacie to dead bodies or injured people.

Nice.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I keep to my character and talk like a dog talks. I have different barks that let Stacie know if someone is friend or foe, I bark and growl when I sense an intruder or something she needs to check out (different barks, you know). Stacie’s friend, Jillian, has a cat named “Meow.” We don’t get along. Once after a break in, a kitten got in the guest room through a broken window. I liked the kitten, but because Stacie is allergic, she and O’Hare found the kitten a home.

I’m glad the kitty got a home. I started out only making cat sounds in my early Cobble Cove books, but then I began “talking” to the other pets in the series and sharing our “conversations” with the readers.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

I don’t think dog characters need much advice. Dogs, generally, are loyal to and watch out for their owners. They may need to be more attuned to bad vibes, like me. Unfortunately, I’m not really good at helping her choose the perfect man for her, though I think the detective may be a sure thing. Then again, I liked Ted and Rick, too.

I understand.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details. T

The newest one, Riddles, Rogues & Murder came out on February 23rd. In this one, Stacie and her friends go for a spa day and stumble on a dead model. I had nothing to do with that part. Someone filmed Stacie while she waited for the police to arrive and then the media called her a person of interest and things heated up fast. Stacie and I had to hide out.

Wow! Sounds exciting.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

I’m not on social media, but I am on every cover. Stacie’s social media links are as follows:

What begins as a blissful ladies’ spa day meant for rest and renewal turns deadly when a striking young model is found murdered in the parking lot. Amateur sleuth Stacie Maroni is the one who discovers the body, notifies the police, and studies the woman and her jewelry. A bit obsessive about things matching, Stacie wonders at the silver earring mixed with everything else gold. Litle does she know someone nearby is filming her. As rumors swirl and clues surface, Stacie notices unsettling details: two men of average build, both wearing dark wedding bands, and threats against her and Jasper—someone believes she has something worth killing for.

With a brash, womanizing FBI agent jumping to dangerous conclusions and pressure mounting from all sides, Stacie finds herself pulled deeper into a mystery she never intended to solve. As tensions rise and threats close in, she must rely on her instincts and her friends to uncover the truth before the killer strikes again or the FBI agent arrests her for the murder. In this seemingly cozy town, even with her police connections, danger lurks around every corner.

A twisty tale for cozy mystery fans.

Sneaky the Library Cat Interviews Hank, the dachshund from Just Desserts and Murder by Lucinda Race

Hello, Mr. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is Hank the dachshund and my author is Lucinda Race.

Tail wags to you both.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

Cozy Mystery – Just Desserts & Murder, Cupcakes & Murder and Brownies & Murder.

Sounds yummy reading.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

I’m in the Temperance Matthews Cozy Mystery series, and woof, I’m pretty darn important too!

Good for you!

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

Yes, my author had a mini dachshund, Jasper, whom she adored. Sadly, he was very old and passed away. This is her way of keeping Jasper alive and getting into mischief.

That makes sense. I’m based on Debbie’s Siamese Oliver who is now on Rainbow Bridge.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

The night was still except for Hank’s snorts. I heard my cell ring inside the house. Why had I come outside without it? Whoever was calling would have to leave a message.

Hank froze and stared at the far corner of the fence line closest to the driveway. A low, deep growl made him sound as if he was the size of a wolf. The hair on his upper back spiked, but he didn’t move.

I scooped him up. Holding him close to my chest, I murmured soothing words as I walked inside, closed and locked the door, and dialed 9-1-1. I hoped I wasn’t being paranoid, but Hank rarely acted like this, and when he did, it was for a good reason.

I glanced at my text messages and saw one from an unknown number. As I read it, my blood chilled. It was straight out of a movie.

Stop meddling, or your little dog will end up alone, in a shelter.

I held him tighter and gazed out the window above the kitchen sink. A flicker of yellow and orange brightened the corner as flames licked the fence’s slats. Right where Hank had growled. FIRE!

Without hesitation, I tapped the three digits and waited to be connected.

Pawsome! Thanks for sharing.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I love the way she writes my character, my personality shines through.

That’s important.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I don’t talk in the book, but my eyes and mannerisms get the point across loud and clear.

Body language is so important.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Be proud to be in the stories our authors create.

Excellent advice!

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

In Oak Hollow, every recipe comes with a dash of mystery…

Temperance Matthews thought opening her dream bakery in Oak Hollow—with her mini dachshund, Hank, at her heels—would be a sweet start to her new life. Instead, her shop goes up in flames, and a body is found among the ashes.

When her quiet assistant Louise shows up bruised, with twigs in her hair, and missing a shoe, Temperance’s data-analysis skills from her FBI days suddenly feel like the only hope of untangling the mystery. But the plot thickens: Jonah, the bakery’s former owner, is stabbed while trying to reach Temperance. The frosting on the cake? Louise’s boyfriend is the victim of the fire. Surveillance footage shows him entering through a locked back door—yet only three keys exist, and Louise doesn’t have one.

With threats mounting and the police closing in on a suspect, Temperance must follow a trail of half-baked clues before the real culprit turns her cozy little town into a crime scene… and who becomes the next target.

Just Desserts and Murder is book 1 in the exciting new Little Bakery Cozy Mystery Series featuring Temperance Matthews. Each book can be read as a standalone.

Sneaky the Library Cat Interviewed Cocoa the Collie from Merry Merry Merry Murder by Paty Jager

Hello, Mr. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?

I’m Cocoa, and my author’s name is Paty Jager. I’m a brown and white border collie.

Tail wags to you both.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

So far, Merry Merry Merry Murder, book 1 of the Cuddle Farm Mysteries.

A debut pup. Love it!

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Yes, this will be a series. So far, there is only one book, but Paty has the second book brewing in her head. She did discuss it with me a wee bit, and I think readers will be interested in seeing why a character in the first book is treating my friend Andi poorly. The Cuddle Farm Mysteries stars me, my doggie friends, Lulu and Athena, Sparky, a mini donkey, Cupcake, a pygmy goat, Flopsie, a dwarf holland lop, and Chicklet, a silkie hen. We travel to schools, retirement homes, and the hospital to make people happy. We like to help kids and adults who are struggling to talk about their problems. I am also Andi’s therapy dog. When she lost her husband, she had a lot of grief to deal with.

In Merry Merry Merry Murder, a girl tells Athena she is mad at Santa and why. When the girl’s mom ends up murdered, Andi wants to find the truth for the child. That’s our Andi, she helps everyone she can. But sometimes, she forgets to help herself. That’s where I come in.

Sounds pawsome. Great timing with the holidays approaching, too.

Are you based on a real animal such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

Yes and no. I am a brown and white border collie. My author grew up with a tri-color border collie and her husband had a black and white border collie. She likes the coloring of a brown and white female her friend has. Her name is Kate. I’m a replica of Kate, only I’m Cocoa.

I see. Very nice.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

“Come on, Cocoa, I can use your help carrying things.” I unsnapped my brown and white border collie from the seatbelt harness and listened to Lulu whine. Scratching the dapple head and soft, long, black furry ears of my Chiweenie, I said, “You’re too small to help me right now. You keep Athena company.” I patted the blonde head of Athena, my Golden Retriever/Pyrenees, and followed Cocoa to the trailer behind the van.

Luckily, all my animals are small, except for Athena, and fairly easy to handle. Athena was larger than both my mini donkey and pygmy goat. At the trailer loaded with panels to set up a small pen, I pointed to the bucket full of pins that hold the panels together. Cocoa grabbed the handle in her mouth. I gathered the top two panels and carried them to the area with a sign, Cuddle Farm Animals.

Cocoa followed with the bucket.

“Good girl.” I patted Cocoa’s head and told her to stay while I went back to make four more trips. Once all ten panels were in the area, I assembled them with the pins Cocoa brought to me.

“That’s a handy dog,” a voice behind me said.

Twisting my neck, I caught sight of a man carrying a red Santa suit. “She’s my best helper. But she wouldn’t make a good elf. She doesn’t like to wear pointy shoes and hats.”

The man laughed and hurried along the path to the covered pavilion where Santa would greet his fans.

Excellent excerpt. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I like that I can help my owner with her anxiety and with solving murders. We meet a lot of interesting people visiting retirement homes, schools, and hospitals. The people we meet become friends. I like having lots of friends.

Me, too.

Are you a talking animal in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I’m not a talking animal, though Andi knows me well enough to understand my cues.

I talk but only to the other pets in my series.

What advice would you give other animal characters?

Make sure that you do things that an animal like you could do, and you can misbehave now and then.

Good advice.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

The second Cuddle Farm Mystery, Very Very Deadly, will come out in Spring of 2026.

Merry Merry and now Very Very. Like those titles.

In the close-knit town of Auburn, Oregon, Andi Clark’s therapy animals bring comfort to the community, especially during the holiday season. As the annual Christmas Craft Bazaar draws near, Andi agrees to set up a Petting Zoo with her beloved animals, bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike.

But when a young girl seeks solace from Athena, Andi’s therapy dog, after witnessing an unsettling scene behind the sleigh, it marks the beginning of a much darker holiday. As the town gathers for the Tree Lighting Ceremony, a scream shatters the festive atmosphere. Cocoa, Andi’s loyal Border Collie, pulls her toward a chilling sight: a woman standing over the lifeless body of the girl’s mother, strangled with Christmas lights.

Determined to help the grieving girl and her town recover from the shock, Andi, her therapy animals, and her niece, a county deputy, take it upon themselves to investigate. As they uncover secrets and untangle clues, they stay one step ahead of the new sheriff and worry that the killer lurking in their midst could be someone they know.

Sneaky the Library Cat Interviews Gus, the puppy from Birds, Puppies, and Murder by Joyce Proell

Hello, Doggy. What is your name and your author’s name?

Gus is my name and the author is Joyce Proell.

Best tag wags to you both.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I make my first appearance in a cozy mystery titled Candy, Cigarettes and Murder. Subsequent books are Reading, Writing and Murder and Cornbread, Ribs and Murder.

They sound interesting.

Are you in a series?

Yep! Four books and counting. When murder calls, the books keep coming.

MOL (meow out loud). I hear you. I have my sixth coming soon, as well.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s?

I’m fashioned after a dog belonging to one of Joyce’s friends. Joyce has a shih poo which is a shih tzu miniature poodle mix. Her name is Nellie.

I see. I was based on my author’s Siamese cat who has since gone to Rainbow Bridge.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

At the edge of Blossom Park, and always on the lookout for adventure, Gus raced ahead lured by thousands of intoxicating odors only dogs detected. He veered across the parking lot, a strip of blacktop wide enough for ten cars. At the sign for the abandoned Gold Dust Mine Trail, he paused, sniffed, and left his mark on the post before loping toward one of two scruffy, wooden picnic tables.

“How far is the mine?” Lydia squinted up the hill. Despite her flamingo pink visor, the angle of her head gave her little reprieve from the sun.

“Not too far. Maybe ten or fifteen minutes, but it’s a climb.” The entrance to the mine lay situated at the end of a twisty path camouflaged by thickets of blue spruce, ponderosa pine, and a ridge of boulders the size of a garage.

“Worried I can’t hack it?” Lydia grinned.

“No, no. You’re good.” But the flushed tone in her aunt’s cheeks did raise concern. “I thought we’d turn around at the cul-de-sac by the bird sanctuary. Let’s do the mine another day. Nic will want to join in.” Next time they’d drive and park in the lot. Cut down on the walking.

“Here, Gus.” She scanned the tiny park area set beyond a rustic fence, more a rest stop for hikers than a daylong picnic site. The barrier blocked cars—though no sane person would ever attempt to drive a vehicle up the steep, narrow path to the mine. “Gus, here!”

Lydia inspected the area with her binoculars. A sudden wind wriggled the tassels of her woolen poncho. “No doubt he’s got his nose to the ground.”

“You’re probably right.” The lab had a one-track mind and could be stubborn as chewing gum on a leather couch. Times like this, she needed to go to Gus versus the other way around. Weighted by concern he’d gotten into trouble, she plodded into the park toward the restrooms, not fully expecting him to be in there…but you never knew with Gus. He was an earthy sort. She called again, louder, firmer, worried when she got no response.

“Gus!”

The black mutt exploded from behind the building, dissolving her tension. He raced past her, his bark excited, and did a complete three-sixty, before he bounded off from where he’d been.

“What in the…” He disappeared behind the building, and she shouted his name again.  When he didn’t return, she trudged after him, shoulders tight with frustration. “Feel free to wait, Auntie, while I reign him in.”

Lydia laughed and skipped after her. “Don’t worry about me. I may not move as fast as I used to, but I’m still moving.” She cackled joyously, alarming several blackbirds she recognized as grackles who jetted from a yellowed leafed Aspen.

Emma rounded the far corner of the building, following a dirt path covered generously with fallen pine needles from nearby trees. The back-half of Gus jutted from a cluster of rangy bushes, rear end wiggling.

“Gus. Get out of there.” A sharp whimper made her wince. Concerned he’d cornered a critter, she grabbed his collar, inching him backwards. When she saw what lay on the ground, her heart lurched into her throat. “Oh, no.”

Pawsome excerpt. Thanks for sharing.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I play a pivotal role in discovering the murder victim, and not too sound too smug, my steady presence helped Emma and Nic find the killer.

Us pet characters get way too little acknowledgement.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent pet like I am who just meows occasionally?

I only speak dog language.

My best co-stars are dogs: Fido and Ruby.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Be yourself. Simple advice but that’s all I know how to be. No highfalutin airs. No acting.

I like that.

Do you have any new books coming out?

Birds, Puppies and Murder. The official release day was 9/23/25.

Condogulations!

Lost puppies, endangered birds…
The sisters are birddogs on a murder most fowl.

The sisters are thriving like mountain sage in an Arizona autumn. Nicole’s yoga business is gaining a foothold in Wyatt. Emma’s first mystery novel is scheduled for release. But a proposed, expansive building project in the pristine area of the bird sanctuary has the community in an uproar. It’s Environmentalists versus Big Business, and the sisters are caught in the cross-fire.

When one of Nic’s yoga students is found dead near the planned resort, the amateur sleuths are back on the trail of a killer. Who has the most to gain from her death—the morally challenged developer, the money-grubbing boyfriend, her jealous brother, a nasty neighbor, or a co-worker with dark secrets? And where has Skittles, the dog, gone?

While the Chocolate Martini Sisters sort through the litany of villains, they’re leaving no mystery unsolved. The stakes are escalating, throwing the sisters on divergent paths that all come together at a dangerous intersection. As they unsnarl the tangled mysteries, will they expose the murderer before the killer finds a way to silence them?
