As you know, our server used to have a season system. However, for quite a long time now we have stopped doing wipes (we do not delete characters anymore). Instead, we periodically introduce new modes.
In practice, the appearance of a new mode works like a wipe, but better: you start from scratch with new characters, you cannot take items from other modes, and you cannot use previously accumulated resources. The game effectively starts from zero and remains fair. At the same time, players who want to continue playing their old characters can do so calmly, at their own pace, without worrying that their progress will be deleted.
Main features of the Pure mode
The new Pure mode is largely based on the rules of the Ironman mode (you cannot trade items with other players and cannot pick up other players’ bags), but with several important changes:
1) No bank.
2) Reset of secondary skills on early servers. When leaving servers 1–5, all skills except the main and the auxiliary one are reset. On servers 6+ skills are preserved.
3) Pure heroes do not lose their equipped weapon upon death.
4) You can’t drop items and gold on the ground.
To start playing in this mode, create a character whose name begins with ! (an exclamation mark).
Why the Pure mode was created
For many players who have already spent a lot of time in the normal mode and want more challenge, the Ironman mode became a good alternative. However, over time it became clear that it still remains relatively forgiving in some aspects. Access to the bank allows players to level one character and then significantly simplify the game for the next ones. There is also the temptation to store and transfer items between servers.
As a result, many players start actively engaging in item management, just like in the normal mode, which greatly simplifies progression. There is nothing wrong with that — Ironman remains a full and interesting mode. However, for some players who want to focus purely on playing a single character, such mechanics become unnecessary.
Legend mode experience
For this reason, a year ago the Legend mode was introduced, where the issue of item accumulation was resolved. However, this mode turned out to be too difficult for most players. Even though deaths are allowed in this mode, the few who dare to walk this path usually try to complete it without dying at all, which makes the mode even harder.
Originally the idea was different: the player was supposed to progress as far as possible without paying attention to the death counter, and after dying simply start again with the same saved character rather than creating a new one.
However, even when players ignore the death counter, the cost of a mistake in this mode is extremely high, and it suits only the most skilled and persistent players.
The place of Pure between Ironman and Legend
As a result, a noticeable gap formed between the modes:
- Ironman is harder than the classic mode but still leaves many ways to make the game easier. Ironman is especially suitable for players who enjoy creating multiple characters of different classes and slowly exploring each Allod while establishing a base there.
- Legend, on the other hand, turned out to be extremely harsh and is mostly suited for the most hardcore players.
The Pure mode occupies a middle position. In some way it is more hardcore than Ironman, but not as unforgiving as Legend.
Reset of secondary skills
Now the second aspect — the reset of secondary skills on servers 1–5. In Allods there has always been a temptation to level as many secondary skills as possible. This significantly strengthens the character, increases survivability, and allows players to trade time spent leveling for an easier progression.
However, such an option reduces the level of challenge. In practice, the early servers of the game can be completed using only one weapon type or one element. It is more difficult, especially on later servers, but still quite possible.
Therefore, in Pure mode, secondary skills are reset when leaving the server (only on servers 1–5). This makes the character more limited, but at the same time allows the player to focus on more skill-based gameplay rather than long grinding of additional abilities.
The idea of the mode
In essence, Pure is a mode for players who want to play a single character, avoid spreading themselves too thin, and not get distracted by side activities such as building a base on every Allod or leveling every possible skill — and instead simply keep moving forward, gradually progressing further and further.
Future modes
In the future, other modes will also be added to the game. Come and play on our server!
