Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan

Together, we are helping create more opportunities for Afghan women and girls to learn, grow, and build a better future.

Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, women and girls have faced significant barriers to accessing education.

Restrictions are severe.
Resources are limited.
Economic hardship is widespread.
Yet women and girls continue to pursue education, and we continue to support them.

To strengthen our collective impact, Right to Learn Afghanistan was among the first to join the Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan (AEWA), now a network of over 100 organizations working together to ensure Afghan women and girls continue learning. Right to Learn sits on the Alliance’s steering committee, and Dr. Lauryn Oates, Executive Director of Right to Learn, serves as co-chair, helping guide this global effort.

Member organizations work together to improve education for women and girls in Afghanistan by implementing quality standards in education, supporting students as they transition between programs, and advocating for the right to education. Members also strengthen each other’s work by sharing information and best practices to achieve the same, collective goal of restoring access to quality learning.

These efforts help more Afghan women and girls access education, continue their studies, and reclaim their futures.

AEWA strengthens the capacity of education providers by enabling them to:

Increase enrollment of women and girls

Enhance the quality and structure of educational programs

Build strategic partnerships and collaboration

Advocate effectively for improved education policies
