Building Knowledge for Better Outcomes

Research is central to our mission. It enables us to uncover challenges, measure impact, and refine our approaches so that every programme we support delivers meaningful results. By sharing these insights, we empower educators, families, and policymakers to make informed decisions that change lives.

Through projects like Spotlight on Financial Literacy and Number Nation, we aim to gain deeper insights into the barriers that prevent confidence with numbers across the UK and to develop practical, evidence-based solutions that help overcome them.

INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL LITERACY

Introduction to Financial Literacy is the second phase of The Richmond Project’s landmark study, Number Nation; the largest ever research into the UK’s numeracy and financial literacy. Conducted by Public First, it surveyed more than 10,000 people testing understanding of the concepts that shape financial decisions throughout life. Respondents were tested on three foundational financial concepts – compound interest, inflation, and risk diversification – giving The Richmond Project a unique insight into the nation’s financial knowledge and how it compares to international peers across more than 20 countries.

NUMBER NATION

Number Nation is the UK’s largest ever survey into public attitudes towards numbers, commissioned by The Richmond Project and delivered in collaboration with Purposeful Ventures, Public First, and the Policy Institute at King’s College London.

More than 10,000 people, including children aged four and above, took part in the survey which was conducted by Public First. Respondents answered more than 60 questions and completed short tests of maths skills, giving The Richmond Project a unique insight into the nation’s relationship with numbers.
