Roscoe: Ronin
He burst into the Throne Room, slamming the door and causing every eye to turn to him. Roscoe’s armor was dented and covered in blood. His sword, which he carried in his hand, was equally blood covered and damaged, with a multitude of nicks marring the blade. Ignoring the guards who were asking him to drop his weapon, Roscoe stomped up to stand before the Jester and the First Knight, who had been having a conversation about what kind of tacos they should get for lunch.
“You left me to fight an entire legion of trolls by myself?” Roscoe demanded.
Revis, the First Knight, snapped his fingers and said, “That’s what I was supposed to do this morning.” Turning to the Jester, Matticus, he added, “I told you it had something to do with Roscoe.”
“Thanks for helping him figure it out, Roscoe,” Matticus said. “It’s been bugging him all morning.”
Rolling his eyes at the Jester, he looked at Revis. “Did you not get the text I sent?”
“Of course I got the text scroll you sent via carrier pigeon,” Revis answered. “Carrier pigeons are very reliable.”
“Then why didn’t you come help?”
“His Jesterness gave me the day off.”
“He’s been working really hard lately and needed a break,” Matticus interjected.
“So you left me to die?”
“But you didn’t die,” Revis remarked. Then, he paused to think for a moment. “Wait… you fought a legion of trolls by yourself. You shouldn’t be able to survive that. How did you not die?”
“I don’t know,” Roscoe shrugged. “You write this stuff.”
“He’s got you there,” Matticus laughed. “And you would have to be a very lazy writer to have something that big happen without explaining how it happened.”
“True enough,” Revis admitted. Addressing Roscoe, he began, “OK, first you…”
“No!” Roscoe shouted, throwing down his sword with a loud clang. “That’s it! I’ve had it! I’m done!”
“What are you saying?” Matticus asked.
“I QUIT!!!!!”
With that, he turned on his heel and stormed off, leaving the Jester and First Knight looking at each other for answers. When none were forthcoming, Revis shrugged. “What a baby…”

My lead at work has, for some reason, recently begun to tell me all about the audio books he’s listening to, even though I’ve shown no interest in hearing about them. Between everything I’m reading, writing, watching, and playing, I’ve got enough stories bouncing around in my head already. I don’t need his added to them.
Comic Book Question 10
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I’m just going to hop right back into it with this:
If you could make a movie with any character, from any comic book company, that hasn’t already appeared on film, who would it be?
I thought about Aztek, the character from my DC “creative control” post, but I remember seeing something about him appearing in a couple of episodes of the Justice League cartoon. I also thought about picking Chamber, who I used in my Marvel “creative control” post, but I wanted to pick someone I hadn’t picked before. Then, I tried to think about a character that hadn’t been used yet in any movies or TV shows, but there is an overabundance of comic book shows and movies these days. That list is incredibly small. Still, I was able to come up with an answer:
Backlash

Originally created by WildStorm and published under the Image banner, Backlash bounced around between Team 7 and StormWatch until he landed his own series. I didn’t discover him until he was already on his own, so everything I know about his story before then comes from Wikipedia.
His basic backstory is this: he’s 3000 years old. He was born in Atlantis to a human mother and a father who’s of an alien race called the Kherubim. Because of his long life, he only remembers bits and pieces of his past.
His alien heritage, along with a mutanigenic compound called GenFactor, have given him a number of abilities, including generating psionic whips, turning into mist, virtual immortality, and superhuman agility.
I actually like Backlash better, but there is a reason I chose Aztek instead of him (because DC now owns Backlash, and all the other WildStorm characters) for that post a while back. I’d want to be the one to write the Aztek story. I wouldn’t want to be the one to write the Backlash story. I’d want Brett Booth to write a new Backlash series, or in this case, movie.
One of the biggest reasons I even gave the comic a shot was because of the amazing artwork of Brett Booth. Not only is he credited as the co-creator of the character, but he also helped write or draw (sometimes both) all 32 issues of Backlash’s series, along with its follow-up WildCore. Nobody knows the character better than him. So, if I was given the chance to make a Backlash movie, the first thing I’d do is hire Brett Booth to write the story.
What about you? Is there a character out there who hasn’t been on screen yet that you’d like to make a movie about?
YouTube Friday: 24257
I was hoping to do a post with words today, but I’ve been so busy all week, and I’m just tired now. So, you’re getting the video to the song that’s been stuck in my head the past couple of days. Hope you like it.
Friday Question #5
This one was texted to me by a coworker. I wasn’t going to answer it, because it’s a very easy answer, but since I couldn’t think of a better question to post about, this is what I’m going with.
What is your favorite sci-fi weapon?
I’m pretty sure that everyone my age (that’s a sci-fi fan, at least) has the same answer: the lightsaber.
Sure, there’s blasters, phasers, and even the Death Star planet blower-upper, but the lightsaber has always been the height of badassery to me. As far as I’m concerned, nothing else even comes close.
What about you? Do you have a favorite sci-fi weapon?
