As part of my look at YA fantasy this week, I’d like to share my collection of books penned by one of my favorite authors of all time: Tamora Pierce! This woman has written some of the best female characters ever, and I can’t believe that I’ve been able to meet and speak with her on several occasions.
The review gods answered my email and sent an advance copy of the newest book of one of my absolute favorite novella series, Wayward Children by Seanan McGuire, my way in exchange for an honest review. I devoured it quickly and now get to share my thoughts with you.
I just so happened to notice that this will be my 300th post since moving platforms, and I thought I’d do something a little different and talk about some of my favorite authors and series. And why I love them so much! Be prepared to see a range of older publications, some out of print possibly, and newer raging phenomenon. These are in no particular order as I love them all the same 🙂
Quick note: This turned out to be a huge list! Because of this I took out any stand alone books and graphic novels. Hopefully, I’ll build each of those their own individual lists soon 🙂

It’s been a long time since I wrote a fun post that wasn’t necessarily a review of some kind, so I thought I’d share some of the books I’ve read this year that I’m thankful for. Some are debuts, published in 2017, backlist books, new series installments, new authors to me. But since I’m all about reading to my mood, these books came to me at a time when they were helpful and fun.
Anyway, here’s my favorite reads this year (in no particular order):

Since I haven’t participated in a book tag for awhile, I thought it would be fun to try out this one. I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but anyone can participate if they like! The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag was created by Chami from ReadLikeWildfire and Ely from Earl Grey Books a few years ago to recap your reading from the first half of the year and to anticipate for the upcoming half of the year.
Many of these are 2017 titles, but I’ve read a pretty good mix of new and older releases this year, so a few are from other years.
I really liked this one and am greatly anticipating having time to read the sequel soon. Check out my review here!
Technically I could have put the second half of this series here and it would all be true.
I was able to read the first chapter or so online and it was over too quickly. I hope my copy arrives soon!
I just love the synopsis for this one and keep hearing awesome things about it.
I was excited to read this one as I hadn’t read YA contemporary in forever, but I couldn’t bypass the unrealistic and unexplained reasons for the main characters being locked in a library for any length of time.
This book counts for both questions as I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did, and I haven’t read anything by Kendare Blake before this. Although I own several by her.
Not sure it’s a crush per se, but I fell in love with the jewel spiders. And I generally hate spiders!!
I’m sensing an animal theme as my newest favorite character would have to be the granite griffins that have a cat form 🙂
SO many reasons to cry.
This book focused on character growth and relationships in a way that was truly healthy. And that meant a lot to me!
You’ll just have to pick up this book to fully understand its gorgeousness, but I was not ready for just how adorable this book is!
Hopefully, I’ll have time to read all of these before the year runs out!!

I had to work really hard to narrow this list down to 10 with only a few honorable mentions! 2017 has so much good SF/F coming out that it’ll be hard to keep up 🙂

I chose to feature new series, where the first book was released in 2016. This is not a comprehensive list, and I decided to only include my absolute favorites that I’m looking forward to reading more of the series when released. I hope you enjoy!
I’m not sure if this is technically a series, but it will have a sequel, which I NEED in my life!
When this first came out, I don’t think it was a planned series, but I was extremely happy when Tor.com announced two more stories.
You’re probably going to get tired of me mentioning this book and author, but this book was amazing and so was its sequel.
Here’s another book that I can’t stop telling people about! I just an arc of the sequel and can’t wait to dig in.
Book 1 in the series titled Kingdom on Fire, that’s what gets a girl excited.
I don’t know when we’re getting more from this series, just that the author has confirmed a sequel.
Apparently, this is not a true series but a series of companion novels set in the same universe but featurely new characters in each. And I can’t wait to read more from this world!
